Default Sony SXRD Power Problems

I'm having an issue with the Power/Standby mode on my Sony 60" SXRD (the original one, not the newer models) When I power up the set, the green power light blinks continuously, as it should ,while the tv is warming up. The tv will then come on for all of 1 quick second and then suddenly I lose the picture and the red standby light starts flashing. It will flash about 3 or 4 times, stop for a few seconds and then flash again for 3 or 4 times and this goes on continuously. Every time I keep trying to power up the tv this keeps happening. Eventually, I do get the tv to power up, although quite frankly, I don't know how, it just does, and then everything is fine. The picture is still awesome, so I know it's not a bulb problem. I've only had the set since February of this year and everything has been fine until the least few weeks where this issue has cropped up. At first I'd have to hit the power button a few times to get past it going into standby and it would come on, but now it's getting more and more difficult to get the set to come on. I find myself messing around with it sometimes for 5 or 10 minutes just to get the power to come on and stay on. I'm wondering if there is some sort of wire short or something withing the power mechanism of the set. Has anyone experienced this or have an idea on what might be causing this isssue. Thanks!

Hopefully you are still under warranty, you need to get it serviced.
Try here for folks with similar problems..a very large number of SXRD owners with all kinds of experience as well as a good number of knowledgeable folks.

www.

look under 'rear projection' heading.

Thanks daleb. It is still under the original Sony warranty. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something that might be an easy fix before I had to call Sony about it.

Cool sony sxrd power problems

Just curious on how or if your ploblem was solved because I am experiencng a similiar problem. After about 6 months of pure viewing pleasure on my SONY KDS-R50XBR1 the TV will go off after about 30 secs of viewing and then come back on for another 30 secs. This cycle will continue as long as the TV is on. I have notified SONY and it has been 4 days and no response. Has anyone experienced the same problem? Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

We are having the same problem. Purchased our TV around Feb of 2006 from Circuit City. We have been in contact with Sony about the issue and finally got Circuit City to come out...we were told we need a new "qbox" to fix them problem....2 weeks into the deal and still waiting on the part to come in so don't know if it will fix the problem or not.

anyone else have any other ideas?

After about two weeks of waiting for parts my Sony SXRD was fixed. I was encountering the same problems you are speaking of. The thermostat and bulb were both replaced.

I am not sure what a "qbox" is other than the tech that came out said it was the "computer/tuner' part of the TV. I just hope he is right and the qbox is what needs to be replaced. We are almost 3 weeks into this deal...we are working through the extended warranty and they seem VERY slow paced....

Has anyone had as successful resolution to their Sony SXRD problem where the TV goes into the sleep mode for 30 seconds (green light flashes) and then the picture comes back on. I see email threads of qbox being named as a possibility but have not seen any successful resolutions.

I've had a simialr problem and fixed it with replacing the bulb. A TV repairman told me that when a bulb goes bad it can cause the TV to do some strange things. Replaced the bulb for $120 and all is well.

My father bought a Sony sxrd 60 in march 2006 , I bought it from his estate in July 2006
Six months later the green blob came , it was repaired under warranty. One year later the standby light would come on from time to time and got worse as time went by , than I couldn't get it to come on at all .every year this happens and every year it costs three to four hundred dollars. I don't know if this happens to anyone else . A five thousand dollar tv should not have almost constant trouble.
