Well originally I was leaning towards Samsung's HL-S5087W as it seemed like the most affordable 1080p HDTV that seemed to fulfill my needs, up until I learned about its 'effective resolution'. Although it still seemed like a good deal I came upon Sony's KDS-50A2000 which for $200 more had everything I wanted and it got a better cnet review. I also like the idea of LcoS and it seemed pretty promising. The only thing that really bugs me is, do either of these tvs support HDCP. I plan on investing on a 1080p tv because I don't plan on buying another one for at least 3 or more years so I want it to be somewhat future proof. Mostly I'd be using it for playing 360 and PS3 perhaps occasionally hooking up my pc and a movie once in awhile. What would be the better tv for a budget conscious buyer looking for a tv that will last awhile?
Note: I want good quality but I'm no fanatic, I'm actually quite pleased with my 27" Sylvania CRT, but with the comming of next generation content it would seem like time to upgrade. |

If you are only going to use it for gaming then you can get almost any 720p tv. I think the hurt in that pocketbook will be much less. |

I have 1 or 2. They are difficult to see - basicly I need to put my nose on the screen to see them. From 2 feet or more they cant be seen. Samsung offered to "fix" it - I said dont bother - I figured it wasnt worth the risk of screwing the set up over something I cant see.

So I'm not entirely familiar with the whole green blob thing, so are you guys suggesting I should go with the Samsung for life expectancy? Also when I say gaming I'm also looking towards PS3 and its support for 1080p and I want to try and make the best of it. What I still need answered is Do either of my listed HDTVs support HDMI/HDCP I can't seem to find if they do or not, and it would be a major bummer if they both didn't.

Nvm, I found it out myself that Samsung claims to have HDCP support on all their DVI and HDMI supported HDTVs. Not sure about sony still.

Samsung HL-S5087W at Pricescan Sony KDS-50A2000 at Pricescan The DLP Samsung has a 5 segment color wheel that spins at 14,400 rpm. The LCoS Sony has a pixel response time of only 2.5ms...should be perfect for the fastest motion. I'm a bit biased, since I'm looking toward getting the 60A2000 myself, but I would recommend the Sony if for any reason as the non disclosed HDCP issue. |
