Samsung sound problem

I have a Samsung HL-S 7878W it has been perfect for 47 days since new .this morning no sound from the tv speakers,tryed the volume nothing ,mute is off just won't get sound .the HDMI goes from the DTV H20 to the Sammy HDMI imput 1 via HDMI cable and worked this way from the beginning with no problem. I can get sound through the surround receiver via toslink no problem .the only reason I noticed it is I watch the news every morning with just the sound from the tv speakers,and now I can't.this is very strange. I plan on trying a different HDMI cable tonight ,and than see if it does the same thing on the DVD that is on HDMI 2 .

anyone have any imput on this ?

Did you try the other cable yet? The reason I asked is mine sound quit working yesterday. HDMI Cable checked out fine, appears the TV is the problem on mine, so I'll be calling Tech support for the extended coverage. I can get sound through all the other inputs, just not HDMI. BTW it's an HL-S5086W

I've had a similar problem.

Switch everything off...and then switch it all back on. Sometimes the order in which stuff is turned on could mess with the HDMI stuff...especially if you're changing settings.

Check your TV's menu to ensure that "Internal Mute" is set to "Off".

Get into the audio settings of your Cable/Satellite box. Ensure that the audio output is set to "HDMI".

If you're connecting your Cable/Satellite box thru your surround a/v receiver and then to your TV, ensure that HDMI audio output on the receiver is set to "other device" (Yamaha).

I'll give that a shot. See, the thing is it worked in the morning and then wasn't working when I got home that evening. Nothing was changed from the time the set was turned off and turned back on. I've already checked all the other settings in the TV and even changed them back and forth, just for grins.

I know it's not the sat. box because the upconvert DVD player has no sound as well when using the same HDMI port (only HDMI port) and cable. Folks at B.B. were kind enough to test the HDMI cable on one of their sets and it worked fine.

Well I'll be... I turned everything off, unplugged and plugged the power in and then turned everything back on... I have Sound!!

corection it's a 6767w and the sammy is not to blame .it is the no good POS DTV H-20 receiver.

My 2 year old Samsung DLP TV (Model HLR6167WAX/XAA) does not have sound. If I unplug the TV and plug it back in then I have sound. My signal strength shows 8-9 bars.
My discussions with Samsung have yielded the following results: My main board is bad and needs to be replaced. The board is $200 and the labor to do it will be $275. So, now I have a 2 year old tv that I paid $3700 for and already have to repair. I would definitely not recommend that anybody purchase a Samsung TV. I understand that a part can fail but this is a major component on a relatively new tv. I'm going to get this 61" tv fixed and then get rid of it. Samsung does not want to step up to the plate and stand by their product. That says alot about the culture of the Samsung company. It's this type of service that will guarantee no return customers.

I agree that these HDTV mfg need to do more to stand behind their products. To expect the consumer to spend 3-5x the money for their HDTVs over their SDTVs and have them be this unreliable is ridiculous IMO.
