Default Replacing Lamp on LG DLP

Hi,

I have an LG DLP (RU-52SZ51D). Been a good TV and I'm happy with it. Coming up on the 2 year mark and the orange LED came on indicating that the lamp is nearing the end of it's life. I expected this...no big deal. The LG owners manual does not list any tech info on the lamp part # nor replacement instructions. I emailed LG and got this response today:

"Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics. Service manuals, schematics, and internal components are only available to authorized service centers or those companies licensed for electronics/appliance repair. Consumers may only purchase accessory items such as remote controls and owner's manuals. For service assistance on your LG product, we suggest that you visit our website at us.lgservice.com Click on "Service Center". Enter your zipcode and product type. Click search. In the event that you cannot find a service center, please call 1-800-243-0000, option 2 for assistance. There, an agent will be able to provide you with an Authorized LG Service Center in your area. Please have your model and serial number available along with your zip code when you call. If you have a customer service issue, please let the agent know and they will set up a customer service file for you. If your unit is under the factory warranty, your purchase receipt will validate the warranty. Business hours are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you are an Authorized Service Center or licensed for electronics/appliance repair, please call 1-800-847-7597, option 6. An agent will be glad to assist you in obtaining a service manual. For information regarding parts or accessories, please contact our parts department toll free at (800)243-0000, option 2. A member of our Parts Department is available to assist you with your parts order Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Please have your model number available when you call. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics. Cyndi E-mail Administrator Customer Interactive Center LGEAI"

I don't mind spending the $250 or so on the lamp, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay someone a few hundred to "change a light bulb". LG obviously doesn't want us to have this super secret info and it pisses me off that they won't give me this info for a product I spent a lot of money on. From researching other model DLP's that actually include lamp replacement instructions, the procedure looks really simple. I've been unable to find much on LG models, though, except the lamp part # which seems to be Zenith 6912B22002C. Can anyone help me with:

An LG service manual or lamp replacement instructions
How to reset the lamp hours on the TV
Anything else I many need to know?

Thanks for reading and for any info you may be able to provide.

Brian.

Not sure if you need this, but here is where you can buy the lamp yourself. Can't help you yet on the "how to change it" part.

Thanks! That is where I'll buy it. Then I'll have it on hand when the lamp gives out. I wonder how much longer that'll be.

From what I have read, you will need to get the service manual to reset the lamp timer. You are in luck, search ebay with your model number. I got the service manual for my JVC off ebay for $13 on CD.

Default lamp reset (I know it's a double post)

A big thanks to everyone who posted information on this topic. over on the front projection forum.
I own a LG 52SZ8R-ZA and have just replaced the lamp all on my own (yippee!). Purchased the lamp from e-Bay £99 free post and packaging express next day delivery, fantastic arrived at 08:30. This was after contacting several retailers, some of which could not even understand that it was a projector lamp I needed. While other would happily take £328.62 of my hard earned money and expect me to wait 2 to 3 weeks for delivery as the manufactures had a problem just now (yeah right!!!!!!).

Just an addendum to the resetting of the lamp life counter, mine read 10723 hours at time of replacement. Although I don't recommend leaving it's long, Sod's Law predicts It'll go just as your favorite TV show comes on. he he.

Anyway on my set the menu pops up as mentioned after holding the OK (on TV) and mute (on remote) not the menu button as I did for nearly a minute. then just press the OK button on the remote to reset counter to zero. After which I had to switch the TV off at the mains leave for 30 seconds then back on this turned of the lamp warning light on the front of the unit.

Once again guys thanks a million, you saved me hundreds.
