Replacing Lamp on LG DLP

I have a LG RU-44SZ63D and I just changed the bulb. I just changed the bulb and it's still not doing anything. The unit powers up, I hear what I guess is the color wheel spinning, and then the unit gets quiet and then it cycles again and shuts down. The screen never shows anything. I was under the impression that I have to reset the cpu after I change the lamp and that the screen would be available for me to reset the hours. What am I doing wrong? BTW, LG will not help and the extended warranty company (Warrantech) won't pay for someone to do a housecall and reset the lamp/cpu/switch/whatever.

One suggestion...
Make sure the Lamp door is Closed completely. On my TV,
if the lamp door is not completely closed, I get no pictures..

I have had my LG DLP rear pro for 3 years and the lamp light just went on today. I was told that I need a serviceman to do this. How did you make out with yours? I am thinking of doing it myself to save $$$

Do you know how long the light indicator gives you before the bulb dies? My bulb light just turned on and I cant call a serviceman till Monday. I would like to replace myself. Thanks.

Regarding the reset of the counter following bulb replacement on this tv., I can also confirm that the steps described by krwake7 do in fact work. I would like to add that when the bulb menu comes up on the screen it is necessary to push the middle button of the lower large round cluster of buttons near the bottom of the remote- this will activate the menu and you will see that is asks you if you want to reset the counter and you hit the same button again and it is done. You can also access this menu to simply determine the number of hours you have on the bulb, if you are curious. What a wonderful bit of knowledge to be able to do this yourself, without having to purchase a service remote or have a technician come to the house.

Replacing the bulb was easy....trying to hold the screws and a flashlight was not. I would suggest a magnetic screw driver so you don't lose the screws.
I bought the bulb for my 52" LG DLP from a local service dealer for $214.00. He said i needed a special remote to set the timer....i tried to tell him i was sure the remote for the tv would work(read it here) and he was wrong...i was right.

just bought my tv and it wont work. white light scrolls up and down in the middle when i power it up. it does this for about 2 minutes then the red standby light comes on and the bulb light right below it starts to flash. waiting for a bulb to come in. does anyone know how to see if the bulb is bad? can you just do a continuity check?

A big thanks to everyone who posted information on this topic.
I own a LG 52SZ8R-ZA and have just replaced the lamp all on my own (yippee!). Purchased the lamp from e-Bay £99 free post and packaging express next day delivery, fantastic arrived at 08:30. This was after contacting several retailers, some of which could not even understand that it was a projector lamp I needed. While other would happily take £328.62 of my hard earned money and expect me to wait 2 to 3 weeks for delivery as the manufactures had a problem just now (yeah right!!!!!!).

Just an addendum to the resetting of the lamp life counter, mine read 10723 hours at time of replacement. Although I don't recommend leaving it's long, Sod's Law predicts It'll go just as your favorite TV show comes on. he he.
Anyway on my set the menu pops up as mentioned after holding the OK (on TV) and mute (on remote) not the menu button as I did for nearly a minute. then just press the OK button on the remote to reset counter to zero. After which I had to switch the TV off at the mains leave for 30 seconds then back on this turned of the lamp warning light on the front of the unit.

Once again guys thanks a million, you saved me hundreds.

I jsut replaced mine today - instructions above work well, including resetting the lamp hour counter - Many thanks.

I got 7368 hours out of the last one - I'm happy enough with that!

Hi all,
I am a newby with these big tvs, a friend has given me one for free, its a LG DLP rear projection TV Model RT-52SZ60DB. It needs a new lamp. Have managed to remove the lamp, right side, 2 screws for external plastic cover, 2 screws for sliding tray/holder with handle, 1 screw for lamp chassis, 3 screws for retaining brackets and finally 2 screws for plug bracket.

Now I have the globe in my hands going, WOW, this big TV works on this light, did I say WOW.

Anyway, the desciption on the side aprt from the very obvious to most " TOP " is as follows

OSRAM
P-VIP 100-120/1.3 E23h
Czech Rep

Now according to my friend this lamp only lasted about 9 months.

My question is,

On Ebay there are 2 suppliers, 1 selling Genuine LG 8000 hr long life lamps and the other Selling Germany made OSRAM lamps. There is only about $40 australian difference between them, but my experience says price does not mean better or worse. So I ask all of you as a non bias third party, a second opinion so to speak, the cheaper one is 199 (Brand-New Genuine Germany-Quality DLP Lamp) and the other is 249 (GENUINE LG REPLACEMENT LAMP / BULB FOR LG LCD REAR PROJECTION TV MODEL

RT-52SZ60DB ), which is the choice to make

Help please

Hey gang,

Thanks for the help on the process of replacing the lamp...now how about finding a location that sells one? I would truly prefer not to be without TV for the 3-5+ days required to purchase one and receive it via USPS. I live in Denver. Any help would be massively appreciated.

I was able to replace the lamp without an issue, but now the red light is on constantly and a green light is flashing constantly. This is when the TV is off... no matter how long or often I push the Power button, this does not change. Attempting to access the Settings Menu or the Lamp Reset Menu ("Menu' on TV + "Menu" on Remote, or "Enter" on TV and "Mute" on Remote) does nothing at all.

I am away from the TV right now, and am giving instructions to my brother who is trying to make it work. Is it possible that the lamp is not seated correctly, ro something similar? What needs to be done to get everything back up and running, is there a checklist of possible errors?
