Default Extended Warrenty - Experiences?

So I have finally bought by HLS5087W. I bought it at Circuit City which was an ok experience. .

My question is this: I didn't think Circuit City's Warrenty was reasonably priced ($399 for 2 years in home). I am wondering if people can post what there experienaces have been with some of the warrenty companies out there. I found these two so far:

- Repair Master
- Mack

If seems like $200 for 3 year in home is a about the market value.
Thanks Guys!!!!

I purchased an EW with my set some months back. Coverage was from G.E. Asking price was $280 at the store for 3 or was that 5 yrs coverage. Package deal I got priced the EW at $200.

With the set as new as it is, I've not had need for EW support. The G.E. coverage has a performance clause and says they cover everything that is needed to return the product back to its intended use/perpose. This includes lamp replacement.

Hope I never have a need but if I do, I hope there will be no snags from G.E. Where I live, the same local Co's provide coverage from set mfgr and G.E. During the period of overlaping coverage I shouldn't have to worry about who pays.

Just wanted to bump this thread to the top b/c I am interested in this topic as well. My Sammy turns a year this October and I have developed the verticle side shadow problem which my new LE is on order. I will now be looking at an extended warranty.

HTmarket.com has an extended warranty which list as a RepairMaster Warranty, 5yrs for $270 I did not think was all that bad. As much as the wife watches TV (or has it on just for noise) we will definitly need a new bulb within 5yrs.

Anyone else have any other names they can drop for warranty programs?

Default repair master

Hi there,

I have a 4 year repairmaster service plan it cost me $299.88. The first time I talked to the repairmaster people was when I first complained about a problem I am currently having. (See the link below) they told me it was a stuck / dead pixel. I later found out that dlp tv-s have no pixels therefor no pixel could be dead. I think its a bad mirror the repair master guy lied through his teeth and did everthing he could to not give me a service call. Well the second time I called I got the service call and they are comming tomorrow between 9 and 11 am. I will update this post after that.

White / Light spot on my DLP

some very important info you will need to ask prior to getting an e.w.

1. if your tv breaks and the warranty company decides to give you a refund because they cant fix it or it is to expensive to fix make sure to ask this. will they refund you the whole amount you paid or will they adjust the refund because it is a used item. most warranty companies will deplete the value and never let you know about it. it is a sneaky move but it is becoming a common practice.

2. how may bulb replacements do they offer over the life of the plan. if your not careful you may not notice that bulbs are not covered under the plan. if there is no bulb replacement then the warranty may not be worth it for a dlp tv.

3. does this plan run along your factory warranty or does it start when your factory warranty ends. this is major because if it runs along your factory warranty then why bother buying one unless its gonna cover atleast a few years past your factory warranty.

4. ask them about there lemon policy. a standard practice is 3 repair visits and if a 4th is needed then the tv is either replaced or refunded. if they dont have a lemon policy or allow more visits then keep looking.

5. do they have repair shops in your area and if so then who. some warranty companies let b.b. and other major chains who carry techs repair there warrantied product. this is a major plus.

6. ask about inhome repairs. the repair place and the warranty company are not the same company. so if the repair place runs into problems they may refuse to work on your tv unless they can get your tv into there shop. this is a big issue because you just dont know when you will be getting your tv back. it could take weeks to months. even though your warranty company says inhome warranty the repair shop may say no. so ask what is the warranty companys policy when this happens. this is another reason to ask if the warranty company has more then one repair shop in your area. if your warranty company says they have never heard of this happening then look through this forum and others like it. it has happened to way to many people who ended up with no choice but to send there tv into a shop and waiting way to long for there tv back.

most tv manufacturers contract an external company to handle extended warranties. there e.w. usualy an exact copy of the original factory warranty only with more years added on. because there conected to the tv manufacturer it may be better to deal with them. they have alot more to lose in the end then some company who only has to answer to themselfs.

i suggest calling samsung direct and asking them about there warranty. it may be cheaper then others and you dont need to buy it until your original warranty has at least 1 month left on it. the info bellow was copied directly from the samsung web site.

Samsung offers extended warranties on qualified DLP TVs, Plasma TVs, Plasma Monitors, LCD TVs larger than 26 inches, and Pro AV LCD Monitors.

What The Samsung Extended Warranty Does Not Cover

Any costs above the normal rate such as overtime charges and additional trip charges unless specifically authorized.

I am thinking about doing televisionwarranties.com

Currently a repair master warranty for 5 years (which is really four years beyond the Manufacturer warranty) plus a 3 year (really 2) bulb replacement warranty for around $260.
My TV $2450 so I slipped just under the $2500 limit.

If anyone can tell me a better deal please do!

Nice info about what to look for.

I called about this today and prices are outrageous. For a 1yr plan it was around $350 and for a 3yr plan it was around $650.

I'm looking for an EW for my new Sony XSRD. I am torn between a MACK warranty which is 3 years starting after the original warranty expires and a 3 year bulb warranty (2 bulbs) starting when the tv was purchased and Sony's extended warrranty which is a 5 year warranty.

Default Buyers Advantage

I've been a member of Buyers Advantage for over ten years. In the past they extended all U.S. new product warranties to three years from date of purchase. Currently they extend FIVE years. I have saved thousands by not buying extended warranties for all my A/V and other tech purchases over the years. And, yes they have paid every claim I have made including $400 for my wife's HP hard drive that failed in month 13 (it had a one year warranty).

They will pay for IN-Home service on the Vizio I plan to purchase for years 3-5 (Costco/Vizio cover years 1-2). They also pay 50% of many home repairs ($125 max per repair) for like refrigerators, washing machines etc. BA will take a return of most anything I buy, that I don't want to keep and which can no longer be returned for full refund from the seller. It covers items up to $500 for 90 days post purchase. Really, this company has been there for me all these years and most years it has paid for itself. Great peace of mind by not having to hassle over individual EW's for scores of A/V purchases from my old Sony TRV900 $2000 camcorder (with its Sony 90 day labor Warranty extended to 3 years by BA) to scores upon scores of A/V purchases since.

Can't recall how many times I've told Salesmen "no, don't need an extended Warranty." You can Google Buyers Advantage and and check them out. And NO, I don't own any stock in the company.

Two things very few people ever think about.

Can the warranty be canceled any time with a pro-rated refund?

Can the warranty be transferred to another party?
