Default LCD Light Engine Replacement

I have a Sony KDF-55WF655 with a bluish discoloration problem. Everyone has told me that the light engine needs to be replaced. BUT, the TV is no longer under warranty. Am I simply out of luck, or are there other options?

Can it be repaired?
Is my only other option to purchase a completely new TV?
Why does it seem that in every thread with questions about this problem, it happens to folks with Sony TV's? Is there a known reliability issue?

I can't shell out another $2500 - there must be another way!

Default Light engine replacement

Hi.
I have Optoma Rd50 H DLP.
After one year light engine died.
The cost for Optoma light engine replacement is ~ $600
part + $200 labor + tax all close to $960.
For your model can be more or less but that's better
then buing new set.

It 'sounds' like the light engine. I think the Sony is around $400+.
With a service manual, and if you are a techie, you could do it by yourself. It is not that complicated that I can see.
Or get a tech to give you an estimate, with the idea the charge for the diagnosis costs will be included if he does the work.
Still, substantially cheaper than a new display! And it could be a cheaper board also.

By the way, you can try to bargain hunt the web for a cheap prices on parts, and probably find Sony is about as cheap as you will get, the same goes for Sears. Their parts cost are the same almost to the penny.

I have Sony KDF50WE655 HDTV. Does anyone want to buy it? It has 4 year warranty on it from CircuitCity. I paid $3500. It is one year old. Name the price if anyone is interested.

In this case he will pay what about 4 years coverage would have cost including coverage on lamps.
It's hard to argue with a PSP with modern (and somewhat unproven) technology. If you are on the fence about aftermarket warranties, make sure you get one you can cancel with a pro rated refund.

Or get a display from Costco who has a generous return policy. It's true, MOST electronics breaks down early.
You can ride on that money or buy more insurance. Depends on what kind of gambler you are.
