Since you don't say you already own a DLP.I'll assume you don't. I would go with a CRT display if cost is a great factor. They are inexpensive and virtually fool proof. The DLP is a great bargain,I think, because the picture is so much better,IMHO only.BTW,these lamps are just a little over $200 now,and will surely go below that in the next year.....Good luck with whatever you decide........

Do you have your display in a cabinet
no.. so far i haven't had any trouble with the last bulb they sent..also i haven't played my xbox 360 since installing the new bulb..wonder if the 360 could have had something to do with the bulbs blowing..?? i never played it over 4 hours at a time, but it sure seemed i could tell the picture got darker faster and the bulbs blew pretty often while i was playing it..??

My 56HM195's lamp blew on Friday. After going to the TACP WEB site I find my set qualifies for the extended warrantee. I have to say, I got above average use for the bulb - over 7 months with what I would say was with above average viewing.

I'm disappointed that with the known problem that no one stocks the lamps. The week+ down time with the kids home for August isn't optimal. At least it's only preseason NFL though.

Lamps should last 2-4 years for heavy to medium use. I worry about having to replace the lamp more often than this.

I'm also disappointed that since I registered on the TACP WEB site that I wasn't emailed a notification of a known problem. They didn't exactly hide the problem but they didn't go out of their way to tell anyone. To me this suggests the problem may be wider spread than we realize. If it turns out to be a problem in the set and not the bulb (it's typical of a manufacturer to blame a sub-component first for quality problems) I wonder if we're out of warrantee if there'll be any recourse for us?

It's a great HDTV (when it's working) and I really hope they get to the bottom of it and get it resolved. It won't be long until it's out of production and then I worry about getting anything resolved. I had a 5-year old Panasonic HDTV just be replaced free under the extended warrantee for not being able to get repair parts for it. After 3 months of waiting, I got this Toshiba. 6 months later they said the Panasonic couldn't be repaired. Now I have 2 HDTVs.

Wow. I had no idea of any lamp issue. My 52HM95 is 3.5 years old, gets fairly heavy use, and is on the original lamp. Am i the only toshiba owner to have no lamp problems?

Nope, same deal here. 3.5 years and wasn't even aware of a lamp issue.

Default 4 years and 3 lamps later

The 2005 Toshiba series of TVs are inferior. There is difinitely a problem with the lamps. I can't believe that Toshiba can pass off such a piece of crap product line and get away with it.
Toshiba should either replace the TVs or design a lamp that will last. Extending the warranty another year just so you have to buy another lamp 6 months after that one dies is an insult. I will never, ever buy another Toshiba product again and I will tell everyone that I know to be aware of Toshiba products unless they step up and correct this problem.
