Sort of a gift for the inconvenience of early failure and having to wait for a replacement, then being told your replacement is a "bad" one as well. For us with what appears to be the old lamp and NO replacement yet,we just get an extra year of warranty.Good luck to all
I forgot to add at the end of my last post..........

I would think that if you complained enough to the right people you could get a spare even without a failure. I will give it a shot and let you guys know how it goes. If my bulb pops during the Masters I might kill someone at Toshiba.

Thanks for the link to the letter.

We'll have to see how many of us that have received a replacement lamp recently will receive one of these letters and a lamp.

My bulb went out friday night. I bought the set December 2nd! I used UPS and kept the power on low. Toshiba says I should get a replacement bulb by this weekend. Judging by what I have seen on this board for turn around time, I guess I am lucky. I hope I get the "improved bulb".

If the new lamps are shipping, you should get one. I would advise you to read the letter in the link provided here. Follow up with Toshiba CS and make sure you have ,in fact, received the new lamp.If not ,they will send you another New lamp when they are available. Good luck.....http://home.wi.rr.com/ragtop262/Toshiba%20Lamp.pdf

Well, has anyone received their "new and improved" lamp yet. Wondering when they will ship and if there is any obvious differences in overall appearence.

I think obvious is going to differ between users and if they ever took a close look at their lamp assembly prior to it failing.

I never looked at my lamp assy before replacing and since the actual lamp sealed inside the glass reflector burst, I have nothing to compare to. On the other hand being a long time M.E. in the electronics industry I could likely spot changes easier than many.

With that said, I did note on the replacement assy, the lamp (the small tubular piec about a quarter " in dia and about 2" long, the glass was bulbus shaped on the lower half. Don't know if the original one had the same shape. The rest of the assy was the same.

Thanks, great reply! P.S.For all future posters By obvious differences, I mean is there a different part number on the new lamp, after taking the bad lamp out, compare it to new lamp, then insert "new" lamp into display.Layman could detect differences in lamp shape, size.If it didn't shatter, is the bulb(inside lamp) shaped any different? Any difference in housing(ventilation),detectable weight difference? Smell?( )Just overall opinions. Thanks again.........

I think that "inner bulb" always shatters when the lamp completely goes. I know mine did, and that is what i have read about everyone who reported the condition of their lamp after it went. I imagine if it was on the "verge" of going, and got replaced that inner bulb would be intact.
