Default toshiba 57h84 cleaning !!!!

Hello ,

i have toshiba 57h84 for 2 years now, ad the other day my friend was shocked that i never had it cleaned in those 2 years, it is under warranty and i think they would cover that. Does really matter or make a noticeble difference if i get it cleaned from the inside?

My dad also has a toshiba 57" and has had it for 2 years. He bought the extended warranty from Best Buy so about 2 weeks ago we called BB to have them come out and check it,it seemed to have lost some PQ.When the tech arrived he told us that cleaning is not needed.I dont know if this is true or was being lazy but whatever the case he did some convergence adjustments and tweaked some stuff in the service menu and I must say the PQ was much better.Where did you buy the TV from?We just called the hotline to BB and told them that the PQ was off and they thats definitly a problem and would send someone out.I would imagine any place that offers extended warranties would do the same........if you do get someone to come and they can either confirm or deny that they DONT need to be cleaned from the inside or something can you please let me know, thank you

I bought my 55in mitsubishi from Best Buy in Jan. 04. The salesman sold me the service policy for $250 on the basis that once a year I would need someone to come out and clean it and converge it. So last year after I had the tv for a year I call up the service dept and say time for my cleaning and service. The guy did'nt know what I was talking about. He asked me if anything was wrong with the tv and I said no looks great, just thought it was supposed to be serviced once a year. He said if they come out and nothing is wrong they would charge me a trip charge.

Did the salesman tell me this to sell the policy or is the service man trying to get out of work that is covered under the policy?
At any rate I've had the tv over 2 years now with no service so I will be calling for a cleaning and service.

I have the same question. Is cleaning nessasary and how often should it be done? What other maintainance should be done on these types of tvs?

I still dont know yet but heres my suggestion.....how can they argue with you if you claim a loss in PQ?Can they prove that its still the same?Is the service guy gonna somehow strongarm you into paying up or else?I say you should call back and do as I did, tell them I dont know whats wrong with it but I notice a definite loss in PQ.The guy came out and although he told me that cleaning the unit was not needed, which the jury is still out on this,he did do a convergence adjustment that I did not wanna play with in the user menu as well as some tweaks in the service menu and VOILA!,the PQ was restored.Even if there is not a problem I say use up that service plan,I have 3 years and 1 of those left and plan to call again in 6 months and once right before it expires and see what happens..

Cool Toshiba 57H84

Nice to see a thread devoted to this particular set. I have a couple of problems.

I have had this TV for almost 13 months. Recently I changed the seating positions around just a little bit and now I am noticing a small area at the top almost center of the screen that looks like an area of dirt behind the screen. It is only noticable from a certain angle. If you move from that spot, the dirt spot actually disappears entirely.
I have an extended service plan and was talking to a friend who installs professionally and he told me to forget about it as if a technician goes in there he may just make it worse. I should just leave well enough alone.
Any other feedback out there?

Also, I have Dish Network and just got one their new HD receivers with MPEG-4. This new receiver is capable of picking up many more HD channels than my old receiver. Old = Dish 811 / New = ViP 211.
There was never a problem that I could see with the old receiver. The new receiver seems to be zooming just a little too much but only on certain new channels. It is only noticable when channels put up their logos in the extreme corners of the screen.
With my satellite receiver set to normal 16:9 and TV set to 0 (Natural), this is what I am seeing.
I complained to Dish and after a long discussion about this they sent me a replacement receiver and it is doing the very same thing.
I know this all sounds like a receiver problem still but does anyone think I am missing something with the TV?
I have talked about this one the Dish Forum Page and nobody else there seems to have this same problem.
Any thoughts are very much appreciated.

okay , for the first problem (the dirt ), unfortunately that is some kind of screen burn, a minor burn as i was told, I thought it was a brown dirt at first, but when a tech came in he told me it was a screen burn, unfortunately the warranty does not cover that, and the only way to fix that is by changing the tubes, costs around $1300 with labor, almost the price of a new set, it happend when my son got his xbox 360 andstarted playing a lot of high definition games.....

for the other problem, my son had it when he started playing his xbox 360 at 1080i for the first time, he used to read " LOADING " on the right corner like " LOADIN ",, all what we needed to do was to access the service menu and adjust the width of the screen >>
i asked that questiona while ago, you can check this link, it might help

Default Cleaning my 57H84

I to bought my 57H84 at best buy about 2 years ago now and still love the TV for the price! I play Xbox 360 on it and watch Comcast HD also just got the Toshiba Hd-A1 player and all look great but I decided to call Best Buy and have them come out. I told them the picture did not look as good as it once did. They sent a tech out from ABL electronics he did take the TV all apart even though he said it looked fine to him. He cleaned the 3 lenses and went into the service menu and did convergence and focus adjustments. I think the picture looks better now then it did. He did say that the lenses were not dirty but he wiped them down with Windex anyway while he had it opened. Sees to have been worth it. I did discover after he had left that he did not put the 2 screws in the back of the screen on the edges that were there but the screen is held on in a couple other spots as well. over all still happy with this TV it was $1,800.00 when I bought it.
