Based on past SED announcements, I'll believe this technology is ready for purchase when I see it on the showroom floor.

Wasn't clear from posted link if the 2007 date was for domestic sales, Japan, or export. From what I read some months back production was to begin in earl 06 for domestic sales and would be ramped up to start export sales in 07.

ok. take your info from months back over this new press release from Toshiba .

"Tokyo, March 8, 2006 -- Toshiba Corporation and Canon Inc. today announced that they will start the first stage of mass production of SED panels in July 2007 and launch SED TVs in the 4Q of calendar year 2007. SED, the Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display, is a next-generation flat-panel display that offers excellent performance characteristics."

Whether if its domestic japan or EU...production still doens't start till July 2007.

as of now..the answer is no burn in issue. check out this link for more info.

" Talk about the best of all worlds - here's the recipe for SED ... take the high brightness and contrast capability of a really large CRT, make it a flat panel and drastically cut the power consumption by removing the scanning electron gun, give it a speedy response time by making every phosphor pixel addressable, and you've got SED. If the pricing is going to be as competitive as claimed, I'd say we've got us a real horse race! "

as of now...any phosphor-based display technology has potential burn-in issues.

CORRECT!

Everything I have read has said there will be burn-in issues with the SED since they use phosphors, but I imagine it won't be as bad as plasmas and be more akin to burn-in with crt tubed tvs.
