Question First time:need advice rear projection DLP HDTV

This will be my first time buying a rear projection HDTV. I presently have cable but will be getting a free 1 year subscription to Direct TV.which I don't know if I'll be keeping after time is up. I want to buy a rear projection HDTV but unsure of what best HDTV to buy for around 40" screen. Also depends on whether the Direct TV subscription I won comes with HDTV capabilities which I'm in the midst of finding out. Is it too early to spend money buying a HDTV at this time FEB 2006. I realize the technology is always changing just like computer technology. But if I do buy one with all situations favorable as far as getting HDTV direct TV then I would invest in a rear projection dlp HDTV. Would you buy a HDTV online or a brick & mortar store close to home? Any other advice appreciated I may over look for example if the HDTV needs service. Would you buy a refurbished HDTV? Is it worth getting a service contract besides the warranty given? I did read articles about High definition TV but have some questions. Is it better to buy a HDTV with a cable card or get a HDTV tuner later. Also can anyone clear up some of the terms in plain English as far as connections resolution ? Am I better off buying a HDTV that cost more then $2000.00 or waiting? How long on an average will a rear projection dlp HDTV last without replacing parts considering nothing needs to be replaced that's expensive? Any suggestions on which HDTV models to buy for around $1500.00 & about a 40 " picture screen, I read Vivitek was rated highly by other manufacturers as being an excellent HDTV. Sorry about all the questions but being the first time buying a HDTV I thought I best get all the advice I can get when spending a decent amount of money Thanks perspecive HDTV buyer northeastern Pa.

I think most of the answers you seek are right here in the forum already, you just need to spend some time reading them. You certainly will see more responses by looking at all the threads than you would via this post.

As for operational cost and should you get the extended warrantee, you'll find a lot of comments already posed on this topic. Any projection tv is going to have the issue of lamp replacement at some point. For this type of set, if you find a good buy on a EW which covers the replacement of the lamp, it will most likely be a good expenditure. Depending upon the set and the lamp cost and the cost of the EW, just one lamp replacement will cover a large part of the warantee cost.

i find this is the best site to buy projection tvs from. there are tons of stores there. just check the customer reviews of the store and product. i agree with the last post about the ew. on projection tvs its money well spent. especially dlps. 1 bulb replacement could cost up to $400. you figure most ew cover 3-4 years. in 3-4 years you may go through 2-3 bulbs. then if something else happens to go wrong it covered. would you warranty a 2k car if you knew you were gonna be useing it for 6-8 hours a day. if you have kids that figure could go way up. that means the bulb is more likely to blow sooner. i would highly recomend toshiba dlps they have one within your price range and is 46 inches. they also have one that is slightly more. its 1080p, built in tuner, tv guide built in, and other features. check the links below.

46 inch dlp. this is one of ther newer 720p models.

slightly more 56 inch 1080p model. i recomend this one since your concerned about future technologies. 2 hdmi, built in tuner w/tv guide
