Jack:

I got this response from KD:

Try reversing the HD and VD cables. This should work.

I have not had a chance to try this, I have been out of town. I will do this on Saturday and let you know how it works.

You 'upconverting' or 'scaling' DVD player outputs high res signals only over it's HDMI port... component is limited to 480p. Many interlaced native sets can't accept a 720p signal, and when you output THAT then the screen goes black. 720p is the progressive HDTV format. If you set your output to 480p (progressively scanned EDTV) over component, you set will probably like it fine...

pilot tim: i got my kd box and as i suspected after hooking up correctly the convergence was terrible. there is a picture but unwatchable. i called doug at kd and he says mitsu hopefully has "memory settings" for convergence on sd and hd jacks. this means i would have to get my set re-converged for hd!! i am afraid to do this since i just paid $100 to get it reconverged after i screwed up in the service menu that this could mess up my sd convergence. i am going to return the kd box and write to mitsu and tell them they sold a product advertised as hd but the buyer can't get an hd picture without many problems and money. the hd picture on the 50" 4x3 is 22" high by 40" wide (44" diagonally) which means i lose 27 % of the picture area on hd even if i could get it to work. it looks almost too narrow. i think i am going to just forget about hd and in 5 years when everything is hd (hopefully) then i can convince my lady friend to replace the old mitsu. the only thing about the mitsu is a great sd picture since the reconvergence. i think it is as good as sd gets so i should be satisfied and just wait to replace the set. you would think mitsu would stand by their product and come up with a solution but i guess not. let me know outcome of your experience. doug says maybe reversing the cables might work. jack

Jack - I'm sorry to hear that you've had the problems. I still have not ventured into the "buying a 300 box" arena yet. Please let us know what you find out when you contact Mitsu.

bob: switching the inputs ( i assume you are referrring to the h & v bnc jacks) makes no difference. doug at key says it is a mitsu problem requiring re-convergence of the hd input. i just don't think this is practical for me to go this far. IF the box just worked as advertised with no further effort or money by me that would have been fine. i just am done with ever getting HD on the old mitsu set.

Not reconvergence, reconfiguration... it just needs setup in the menus.

Well, I switched the H and V inputs, and it works wonderfully.

Jack, sorry to hear that yours didn't work.

tim what model number do you have? if vs50803 (like mine) i might retry it but i did change the h and v and still got messed up convergence. i wonder if each input jack has it's own convergence setttings? i am going to call mitsu and ask about this possibility. jack

tim: as incredible as it seems the hd and sd inputs supposedly have separate convergence settings so i need get a tech out to converge the hd jacks. i am debating on doing this. another $100 thrown at this is a pain. i am glad you got yours working. is your set 4x3 or 16x9 just curious.mine is 4x3 and the bars at the bottom are fairly large in hd mode. jack

Default Well, I'm going to try it

I went ahead and ordered a KD-CTCA3 from RAM. I talked to Key Digital about the problems everyone on the board has talked about and they indicated that they have made changes to the unit to fix some of the color convergence problems (I was looking at a used unit and decided to go new). It is due in today and I will re-post when I get done. Thanks to all for your information.

Default Mit ws 65903

My son recently gave me a Sony SAT-HD100 receiver which i was told a few years ago would work with my WS 65903, as long as i used the bnc to vga cable. It works but i found that it needs some work as the picture will blur and go out after about 20 min. or so. Last week a friend had found out that i could use the bnc inputs on my tv as long as i used bnc to rca adapters. I tried this but was unable to get a picture. Any thoughts on why this is? Also i understand that there is a service code for the 903 that will allow you to view dvd in progressive mode. If so does anyone have this info?

I think you are confusing 2 different types of connection, and their individual signals. VGA signal is RGB. Component cables use a different color model Y/Pr/Pb. You can't plug RGB into a Y/Pr/Pb socket & get a picture. You will need a device called a transcoder, that takes in Y/Pr/Pb and puts out RGB.
