Unhappy Blue lines running through my Sony HD TV, please help.......

Posting for a friend:

I have a 3 year old Sony 51" rear projection TV. Recently I have developed faint blue lines that arc from the left side of the screen to the right. They are most visible on black backgrounds. They are almost invisible while the screen is bright (like on a white background).

I have the Monster clean power 3500 as well as all monster cables.

This only happens after about 10 minutes, while the TV is warmed up. It happens even with nothing playing, in a completly blank screen, with nothing hooked up.

Please, any help you can offer would be greatley appreciated. I know no matter what it is I'll probably need to take it to a repair shop, but I would like to have an idea of what it is before that.

Thanks a lot guys (and gals)!!!

Hi there. dont think you have to take it to a repair shop. The fix is easy and takes about 5 min.

you dont say what the model number is but i am guessing it is the kp51ws500.
I have this tv and had the same problem only it was red lines.
All it takes is a phillips screwdriver. You have to take off the front speaker grill and adjust the screen voltage on the blue gun. If you go here
http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/Ws500/
and download the "tweek guide" - it has instructions and pictures of the proceedure.

I have a similar problem that occured last night. I have a 52" Hitachi Ultravision (unaware of the model #) that all of a sudden has blue arches on the top and bottom of the screen.

This also occurs when just the TV is on against a blank screen. We flipped a breaker shortly before this happened but the tv and power sources were all off.

Any info or help is greatly appreciated.

Default Blue Lines

Actually that's bad advice.Tweaking your settings. The problem is that paticullar tube is going bad and needs to be replace. That is a common problem in Sony tvs manufactured before June 2004.I had a repair man tell me that when he quick fixed mine, lilke the earlier replies tell you to do.About 4 months later those lines reappeared. If you have an extended warranty which I'm guessing you don't but if you do call the repair center and see what they can do.Or call Sony and explain to them what's going with your set and see what they recommend.
