Default Looking for Gaming HDTV: ~27" - Need Advice

Heya. I'm new here so hopefully this is the right section... y'see, I have a request to ask you guys:

I'm looking for a high-quality gaming HDTV that's around 27". By gaming HDTV, I mean an HD that looks as good while gaming as it does while watching TV. I'm very willing to be flexible, but if you want to put a smile on my face, one for less than $600 is nice. =)

If you would be so kind, giving links and model numbers to HDTVs that fit the above criteria or almost fit would be greatly appreciated.

A little background on my TVs:
Recently, my old SD RCA blew out and I'm now stuck with some old generic 11" SD TV/VCR/FM Radio monstrosity (w/ Headphone Jack! that I found in my storage. So, now with the whole HDTV leap coming around 2006 and the new more reasonable prices coming about for HDs, I thought I'd try my luck.

I went to Wal*Mart and browsed their selection of HDTVs. The 27" Sanyo ViZZoN 4:3 Ratio HDTV (I forgot the actual model #) seemed decent and was only $400. It also had two composite jacks, so my consoles would be nice too. I purchased the TV (after an exhausting tussle with the cashier who charged me twice for the TV, gave me a funny looking reciept, then forgot to give me the two-year warranty, so I went back to fix that one too).

When I got home, I plugged in my Xbox using composite cables and, to my woeful surprise, the thing looked worse than my 11" SD! There were vertical lines that made the picture look like one of those fold-up paper fans. The picture was crooked. The quality was so grainy I felt like vomiting. Yet, when I watched TV, it looked good. It didn't make sense. Distraught as a gamer, I returned it, since I'd rather have my 11" and $400 over that hunk of garbage. What a waste of a day.

So, ...yeah, that's about it!

I've looked into some files and it seems that most TVs mde in Japan have better reliability than those that don't. I find that interesting.

Anyway, any help?

Default Syntax Olevia

You're right, the best TVs are by Japanese brands. But you will have to spend a lot more to get these. If you just spend $200 more I have the perfect TV for you... Syntax LT26HVX. check it out. you won't be disappointed.

I'd recommend the 27" Olevia LCD rather than that 26"... that 26" is a 15:9 screen & the 27" is 16:9... and check the specs...

Of course, bigger is better for HD... and Syntax also makes 30" and 32" panels... lots of sales on the 32" for about $1000 - 1200.

HD = widescreen. Forget 4:3, that was old analog NTSC & obsolete. All CRTs are interlaced @ 30 fps... best gaming is progressive & 60 fps.

Syntax 27-inch Kolin LCD TV.
The Kolin 27" Multimedia LCD Television is now entering the Syntax Product line. This unit features robust functionality and features like those of our Olevia Series products. Users can use Split Screen and Picture in Picture with different sources to provide enhanced viewing options. For instance, you can setup the main screen as the primary source and have a small window with a live TV Station to give you the flexibility to use your display as you please. If you want to wall mount your new Kolin TV, it can be placed in the room of your choice to complement any living environment. You can comfortably enjoy 16:9 widescreen content when watching High Definition media through the Component or HDCP-Compliant DVI input, or watch DVD Movies and play games with beautiful clarity.
