Default Help with Sony 60 SXRD

I plan to buy one, but not sure if it is too soon because of the lack of 1080p native input. I read their manual and it supports 720p and 1080i in HDMI input and only 1260x728 in PC input (15 pin). With the new PC Media Players and HD DVD coming out with 1080p, am I going to loose resoltion? I called Sony and had conflictive answers, by one person saying that it supports 1080p inout but there is no available input to test and other saying that it does not.
Thanks

It does not support 1080P signals. As far as the computer resolution goes I haven't checked into that but its probably correct using the RGB connection.

While it doesn't support 1080p input, these displays have a 1080p native resolution. Therefore, if you were to set an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD player to output 1080i, you wouldn't be losing resolution. The Sony would just deinterlace the incoming signal to make it 1080p. The result would still be better than anything we have now. If you're not worrying about the extra cost for the 1080p model, I'd say it's worthwhile for when high-def DVDs become available.

Thank you. Would this alos be applicable for Media Center with 1080p output via HDMI for games?

It's a 1080p display...it will inherently deinterlace anything you feed it.

What good value DVD player with scaler would you recommend for the 60 Sony SXRD?

None, a good progressive-scan player should do just fine via component connection.

Does anyone have a guestimate on when TV stations might start broadcasting in 1080p? It seems to me that Sony doesn't expect that to happen anytime soon...otherwise it would have been a factor in the SXRD release.

dont think it is gonna happen for a very long time if ever. 1080p is more for hd-dvd and blueray. which ever one wins. also for gaming. its hard enough for these cable and satalite providers finding the bandwith for 1080i broadcasts. so dont hold your breath for it.

While CBS is presently working on it I would not look for it from them for at least two or three years. High def. DVD is another thing as it is right around the corner.
