Default New Hitachi Cineform 50" Rear LCD

New guy here, heard a lot of hype about the new Cineform LCD Series from Hitachi just out now available in 50", 60", 70" models. Supposedly they are as thin as the Plasma sets with an amazing picture to boot. Does anyone have one of these new sets or care to give their opinion of what they have heard about it? Also, I am interested to know how it compares with the Sony Wega LCD line and the Samsung DLPs. Local store in my area do not have them on their floor yet. Will be another 2 weeks so I am imploring your help with some advice or reviews on this tv. Thanks kindly.

Default New Hitachi Cineform 50" Rear LCD

Hello Sir. I have no expertise at all in the area of HI-Def TV but began to read and research about 8 weeks ago. Lurking around forums here and getting consumer reports. I concluded that the Sony version of this technology was the best bang for the buck for my budget. Spending 3.5 hours in shopping, I threw all it all away for the Hitachi 50VS810 and spent an extra $1200 on credit about $5000 with the extended warranty, stand, etc. My personal subjective testing in two stores and different lighting found that the blacks were better, the intensity crisper, the angle before pciture fade was deeper. I could not believe it and kept trying to make the reviews in hand fall in line with waht I was seeing in person. I hope this is of some help to you.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 2004

The Home Electronics Division of Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), www.hitachi.us/tv, today redefined microdisplay technology with the launch of CineForm(TM) rear-projection Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) televisions. An exclusive Hitachi design, the CineForm high resolution dual focus lens reduces the length of the optical path yielding a considerably more compact cabinet. The advanced components of the CineForm models reduce the cabinet volume by 21 percent from Hitachi's previous rear-projection LCD design, minimizing non-picture area and closely matching the form factor of Hitachi's new plasma television line.

Thanks Spartan1 for the article. I already read that article and was wondering if anyone had any particular experience with the Hitachi 50vs810, if they are considering buying it, how it compares to Sony and samsung, opinions, etc.

Talking Rear Hitachi Cineform

Have had the new Hitachi Cineform set two weeks now,and being as ojective as i can find know negatives about it at this point.I've hooked up a dish HD 811 ,Samsung upconversion dvd player ,and a Terk indoor antenna for local hd pulldown. Video is smooth across the board. However the dish 811 optical 5.1 is having software issues where broadcasts are not being converted to 5.1. audio. As a temporary fix dish suggests users to check off pcm only in there audio menu until situation is resolved. All in All these sets perform on the high end for performance without breaking you in the pocket. The only other difference i see in spending all the extra money for a straight lcd or plasma is the luxury of hanging it on the wall .Circuit
City plan covers your bulbs changes .Looked at many options before purchasing this set .Can't go wrong on this choice ! Hope this helps.

Saw this set at Circuit City today with the wife. Decided to buy it but are holding off a few weeks until I get my HDTV signal situation (DirecTV upgrade/Voom/Cable) worked out.

I dragged my wife around for weeks looking at DLP (Mitsubishi), Sony LCD, Philips LCOS, JVC D-ILIA (LcOS variant) and more. In the end, this set was THE ONLY ONE TO MEET THE WIFE'S SEAL OF APPROVAL.

Based upon in store testing...Awesome HD picture with natural yet vibrant color, exceptional detail, and more depth than any DLP I've seen. No 'shimmer', as my wife describes it, as seen on all of the DLP sets. Excellent input options, features etc.

Last, and certainly not least, aesthetically BEAUTIFUL on or OFF with solid black slim (plasma-like) bezel and anti-glare glass cover.

Still unsure about how it handles SD, but again, the wife approved it so it's a go for me!

I have DirecTV service. Can you confirm that the SD picture is acceptable...At least not WORSE than my 5-year old CRT-RPTV?

That's a deal-maker for me. Please provide as much detail in your SD picture comments as possible (will help in assuring the wife that the set is the final winner)...THANKS!
