Unhappy Yet another victim of "white spot" syndrome

I also have the WD-C657 60" that I bought at Costco in Sept, 2007. It started with a single white spot in upper left corner, and is now up to eight.

I called Costco "Concierge Service" to see if they would/could assist, and after gathering some info, they got a Mitsu rep on the phone.

I paid $70 to get a repair estimate; the estimate comes to $440 to replace only the DMD Chip, not the entire L/E.

I emailed the receipt and estimate to Mitsu today (Dec 14); they said they'd reply within a day or two. (Fingers crossed...)

The Costco rep also said he would personally follow up with me over the weekend to see what, if any, progress has been made with Mitsu.

Seeing as how the DMD chip is less than half the cost of replacing the L/E, I'm being hopeful that Mitsu will pick up most, if not all, of the repair.

We'll see what happens, and I'll post updates here.

I found this thread searching for "mitsubishi dlp white dots"....why you ask, well because my 4 year 5 month old WD65734 just got it's first white dot in the center about 3/4ths of the way to the right.

I guess this is becoming a common issue, I will be calling tomorrow and will be sure to reference the information I found here.

Default 65" Mitsubishi DLP white dots

I also have a 65" Mitsu. DLP that I paid over $2000 back in July of 2007 and now that my 4yr extended warranty has expired 3 months ago, my TV got the dreaded white spots I've been reading about....around 150 of them at this point. I guess I'm glad it's not just me. Thanks to everyone who post, I guess I'll be calling Mitsu. to see what they can do. It sounds like they should just do a recall after reading that this is so common.

WD-C657 from Costco 3yr 9 months . 2 white dots so far. They just started last week. For $1800 it should last longer. I think the next set will be LCD or Plasma .

Called MEVSA today, went through the basics....is it a piece of lint on your TV, are you sure you are not stupid, have you tried a reset, etc, etc.

Told me they would look into doing something about it and to expect a call back within one business day.

Fingers crossed.

Does anyone know the part # for the DMD chip for a WD-65734.

I'm going to try and fix this myself depending on the price of the chip.

The sad part is that I started getting the white pixels right after I posted the TV for sale.

I am looking for good control, above average sound, and most importantly, quality.

Update - 12/22/11 - Got a call from Mitsu today (amazing...);

They offered to pay for part, and I should pay for labor ($250). I said that $250 for labor is a lot, and I asked them to split the labor cost. They agreed, and I was put on hold while they called the repair shop to authorize the work.

Afterwards, I called the repair shop and they confirmed that I will only owe $125 (of which I already paid $70 for the diagnostics trip).

Now, the repair shop will order the chip (which apparently is back-ordered due to heavy demand), then call me to set up a date to install.

So, looks promising. Will update as things progress.

Got my call yesterday, Mitsubishi agreed to pay for the parts but said I would have to pay labor, $200.

I'm still waiting for a call back from a buddy who works for a repair shop, seeing if I can catch a break.

Second white dot just appeared a few minutes ago.

Just replaced bulb in my 73734 a couple of weeks ago now the white dots are showing up....... I'm not too happy,I thought this tv would last a bit longer than three years before we had to start dumping money into it , I guess I'll go see the guy at the repair shop and see if he has delt with this problem yet .. Maybe he has and will be able to give me some advise and numbers to call , If you all file a class action suit PLEASE LET ME IN ON IT !!!!!! I want my set fixed for FREE !!! or a new replacement, I don't like paying for what I thought was a top of the line tv and wind up in and out of the shop a few years later.... This SUCKS !!!!

Am considering a 65 or 73" DLP in this line - does anyone know if they're STILL shipping sets with the defective chip? Worth the risk?
