Unhappy Mitsubishi White Spots

I bought a 73 inch DLP Rear Projection 4 years ago and I am loaded with white and black spots. As luck would have it, my 4 year warantee expired 3 days ago. I am interested in any class action that may be brought agains Mitsubishi. Now I have to go buy another television. Never a Mitsubishi and never a rear projetion again!

Hey Sean,

How did you get them to pay for the diag, trip and part? My set is only 3 years old, I just replaced the bulb @ $300 now its the Dlp chip! I called Mitsubishi and they said to call a repair company for an estimate to repair and send them a copy. Sounds like they need to recall some tvs.

Thanks gcchaser

I'm having the same issues. My dlp 65737 is less than 2.5 yrs ago. It's ridiculous that Mitsubishi knows about this issue/problem and yet has done nothing to rectify the problem (a recall perhaps?). Rather making us all pay for these ridiculous diagnosis & repair fees.

I personally did not pay a lot of money so the tv would go bad, by having white spots 2 years later.

Would anyone be interested in a class action suit?

Unhappy Newest member of the "WD Club" (white dot)

I am new to the forum, but wanted to thank the members who have posted their feedback related to this issue. The information has been very helpful for me since I started experiencing the same issue on my own WD-65833 after exactly 4 years and 3 months to the day of purchase from Best Buy. As luck would have it, my 4 year extended protection plan from Best Buy expired 3 months ago and I am at the mercy of Mitsubishi like many of you.

At the direction of a very friendly service rep from Mitsubishi, I have a certified local technician making a house call tomorrow for $75 so that he can provide me with a written diagnosis and estimate to submit to Mitsubishi Consumer Relations for review. Then I can anxiously await their answer with regard to subsidizing all, part, or none of the expense.

Does anyone who received reimbursement for parts (or labor) have any pointers for me that might increase my chances of a positive result?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Default WD-73735 white spots hopefully resolved

Hi all I am new to the forum but share the same issue as many of you. I have been through hell resolving the white spots issue with Mitsubishi. I first called Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America 1-800-332-2119. I spoke to someone in the Philippines who advised me that MEVSA would "do something to help me" but he was not specific. I asked to speak to a supervisor and after some resistance I spoke to a supervisor who stated the classic out of warranty. I advised him that a $3200 TV should last longer than 3 years and of a possible class action law suit. He placed me on hold for 15 minutes or so. When he came back to the phone he advised me that Mitsubishi would cover everything and would start the repair process. I asked him "so when the smoke clears what will be the cost to me"? He advised me nothing and that they would cover the entire repair. The TV repair guy diagnosed a bad dmd/dlp chip and also a bad light engine. $1200 The TV repair people emailed me a repair order which I had to email to Mitsubishi many times before they received it. I was eventually contacted by corporate who advised me that they would cover the part but not the labor $250. I have since been back and forth with MEVSA Corporate in California Phone: (949) 465-6251. They are now willing to cover half of the labor but upon what was initially promised am having this elevated. I have also made contacts to executives through the spell by last name feature on their main line. I will get back to you on the results. Hopefully you all will find this helpful towards your situation. Due to being new I can not post url's until I posted a few more times.

If my issue isn't resolved then yes I would be interested in a class action law suit.

Most of the issues here seem to be with just the dlp or dmd chip. It is the same chip that goes in a few different brands like Toshiba, Samsung and Mitsubishi. It is definitely made by Texas Instruments. I think you can find the parts I am talking about on shop jimmy's website. The chip retails for about 300 and I am not sure about the installation cost. The light engine has all of the major components like the color wheel, dmd/dlp chip and the optical parts. That + installation is 1200 or so.

Angry Mitsubishi White Spots

My 65" Mitsubishi DLP also has the dreaded white spots. It's 3-4 years old, and several months ago white spots began appearing. We now have a constellation of 24 white spots. It seems that this a big problem for Mitsubishi. Thanks for all of your posts. I will be contacting Mitsubishi to request that they cover all parts and labor for a new DLP chip or light engine. I would also be willing to be part of a class action.

I have the WD-C657 60" that I bought at Costco January of 09 and have a ton of white spots now. I will be calling Mits and see how things go. I will let you know if they do anything to help. Thanks to everyone for the information in here.
