Default White spots!

I have had my 65" Mitsubishi DLP for about 4 years. Just 3 weeks ago the first white spot came up on mine. At first I though it was something on the screen, so I checked the inside but it looked to be inside of the screen itself (I guess that was just the way the light was projecting). Sure enough, last night I loaded up my TV and the second white spot has appeared. Just like all of you, I spent over $2,000 for this TV only 4 years ago. Another TV (not the Mitsubishi one) I bought for $300 around 12 years ago still works fine, meanwhile this thing is giving problems to so many people and Mitsubishi is running away with all of our money. It is also funny that they give 2 or 4 year warranties, but by the looks of it, these defects tend to start right after that 4 year warranty runs out. And then Mitsubishi offers to sell the newer model at a discount? Why? So that in 4 years the same thing can happen and more money go down the drain into their pockets? Does anyone want to do anything about this? I would think this seems to be a big enough problem (considering how many people are having issues) and is due for a RECALL. This should be replaced at no cost. If a reasonable fix does not come out of this, I will never buy a Mitsubishi product again.

I DO HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION THOUGH: What is the difference between switching out the Light Engine or the DLP Chip? Can one or the other be done to solve the problem, or does the Light Engine need to be replaced no matter what? I ask because I saw the Light Engine repair being quoted at around $1000 but then the DLP Chip replacement being around $300. How is this done, and does only one or the other need to be done?

Smile Mitsubishi White Spots

I am suffering from the white spots on my tv screen as well and they are multiplying by the day. The tv is 5 years old and it appears that the purchase of a new one is on the horizon (no more rear projections). Glad to know I am not the only one with this problem.

Im trying to find the same answer.. My 73" is having a few white spots popping up as well..

Although out of warranty, I got Mitsubishi to pay for the part, 690 bucks, but they dont cover the labor to install it which comes out to 300 bucks.

So, wanting to do it myself, i can imagine its only a plug and play kinds thing.

I did find this on youtube, but thats the whole things, where is the chip? Crap, 1st post so i can post the video

you would need to adjust the screen after replacing the dlp chip in the samsung dlps but as for the mitsubishi no alignment is required. A service tech should do the replacement, this is not for wannabys because you can damage the color wheel ribbon cable if you are not carefull.

Default Mitsubishi WD-C657 DLP has white spots on screen

My wd-c657 dlp was purchased 1/26/08 from Fry's, also purchased a 3 year extended warranty for the unit. This big screen sat in storage for 1 1/2 years unit my house remodeling was complete. Having limited use of the T.V. in the past 2 years it has suddenly developed 4-5 white spots. (I don't get this?) I would like to know what the best phone # to Mitsubishi would be to protest this problem and request any other info that could be helpful, thank you!!

Wink gettin g help from Mitsubishi

I got my Mitsubishi 60 inch dlp from Costco and allmost 3 years to the day, the little white spots started to appear. Called Costco, told tv was out of warrenty and to call Mitsubishi for any assistance. Did that. Mitsubishi told me tv was out of warrenty. I told the rep that $1400 was too much money for a tv to only last 3 years. The rep said she would see if company would help me. The result was Mitsubishi agreed to pay for the part and I would have to pay for the labor (in my case it was $150 for the part which was Dmd chip and $150 for the labor). If you have problems with your tv, call the number on the back of your manual and talk to a service rep, they're there to help and they do.

I had bugs flying inside the set so while we were watching our favorite shows, we could experience the shadowy background effect. Started with 1, became a 100 flying and then as they died, turned stuck black dots all over the screen. Half of them have now flared into white burn outs. I can't simply understand how a major consumer electronics giant like Mitsubishi, supposed to be a leader in DLP, can manufacture sets like these. As many of you frustrated and disappointed souls, we spent over $2000 on our 65' set. Please let me know if there is an open consumer court grievance/complaint petition or lawsuit. Sony's Bravia LCD sets started having parts melting. What did the company do? They recalled 1.6 million sets.

I have the same TV with the same problems. I wonder if it is worth it to have it fixed. By the way my tv was manufactured in 2008 and not it more than half way covered with dot. I have already replaced the bulb twice. I don't know if it is worth it.

Its going to get worse. If not in warranty Mitsubshi will not do anything. At least, that is what I have been told.

I'm having the same issue on my 73" WD-73734, thought I had ants! Very disappointing, I will never buy another Mitsubushi unless THEY fix this known problem. Does anyone have a good number to call? Thanks
