Shouldn't unless the repair man is a complete idiot. There is an alignment that they have to be careful off, however if they slide the engine out, it's only a heat sink removal and the chip. I had our repairman vacuum out the engine area as well.

Will this affect any of that calibration or is all of that on the logic board??? Thanks in advance.

If anyone has converted, or even tried such, we would be interested in learning about the results.
I have the same problem. Did new DLP chip solve the problem?

I came across a situation with my TV that might be applicable to some other readers. My 65833 started getting white spots a few weeks ago. I had a service call today and the technician suggested I call Mitsubishi. On the call the rep asked me if I had purchased an extended warranty. I told her I had but that the store I bought the TV from, Anderson's Big Screen, had gone out of business so I thought the warranty was gone too. The rep gave me the number of Anderson's third-party warranty provider and asked me to call them to see if my warranty was still valid. She told me that, if the warranty had expired, to call back and they'd cover the cost of the part, but I'd be responsible for the labor.

I called the warranty provider and, sure enough, my warranty still had a couple of months on it so now my repair is covered 100%! I'm just saying, a lot of companies have gone out of business over the last few years, but don't assume that your warranty isn't valid if that's the case with your purchase. Mitsubishi should be able to give you the number to call. Check it out, you might get lucky and get the whole repair covered.

Thumbs up Mitsubishi Customer Service

My 60 inch mitsubishi started having the white dot problem about a week ago. I called customer service at 1-800-332-2119.
A digitized menu is given. Choose #2. The person that answered was very courteous. They ask you for the model#, the serial#, where you bought your tv, and when. It makes no difference if the tv is out of warranty. They furnish the part and you pay for labor to install which is $200.00. Within 20 minutes of making the call, I was contacted by a local tv repair shop. They said they should recieve the part from Mitsubishi in 5 days and would be right out and service the tv. They said the proceedure would take about 1 1/2 hours.

I just replaced the dlp chip in C657. Cheated the first time and pulled the board without pulling the whole engine (fear factor). The dots have gone away but I now have several large circular ghost like images and the screen had a sort of washed out look in the middle that can only be seen when the screen is black. The washed out look is not the bulb because it was replaced in the last 4 months with a OEM bulb and the washed out look was only in the center while the rest of the picture is bright and clear.

Took the engine out and cleaned everything I could see (did not take apart bulb side). Took the chip out and cleaned/wiped the reflective surface on the chip (what is this?) and replaced. Washed out look in the center is gone but the (baseball sized) ghost images remain. They are in different places but are still there. Always 2 balls together and currently 3 pairs. Only noticeable when the screen is black.

I had also reset the heat sink because I thought I might have torqued it down too hard on the chip.

Any ideas about what these "ghost" images are? Could it be something on the reflective side of the chip or something on the large round "all seeing eye".

Any and all ideas are helpful!

Default frustrated!

like most of you i am experiencing the white spot plague and i've noticed the numbers have been increasing. my problem is doubled... as i have 2 that are now doing this.. i have a mitsubishi 73" and a samsung 67"... i first noticed it on my mitsu which is a little over 4 yrs old and is very little used.. my samsung is less than 4 yrs old and is used pretty heavily. like you, i went to google for information and this forum is the first thing that popped up. judging from the number of pages on this topic it must be way too common of an issue. so i plan to call both manufacturers and im hoping someone here will shoot me the numbers. i wont buy another dlp and quite honestly we're talking roughly $5000 worth of tvs that i'd rather not replace, not to mention i actually love them!

Once you call MIT, you'll probably get it fixed with the part coming from them for free, all you need to pay for is the repair labour. Shouldn't be over $200. I got my 6 year old 73" done and working great now. Just call them up. Don't wait.

Let us know how it goes.

I bought this tv from Costco on 2/20/2008 and almost exactly two years later i had the bulb replaced. The tv worked great after that until late summer this year when i noticed a white spot on the lower right side of the screen. Soon there were two dots and now i seriously can't count how many there are. When i view a bright background on the tv i can still see the white spots but can see even more dark spots. My wife thought we had bugs inside the screen. So we took the screen off cleaned the inside of the screen, cleaned the mirror, cleaned the bulb.... we cleaned EVERYTHING, and the spots are still there.

I called Costco's Conceirge Services a few days later and was told the tv was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do to help me. Thus far i haven't had a chance to call Mitsubishi directly.

So i thought i would come here and ask if any of you have had the same problem or might know why this is happening to my tv and what the fix is.

Thanks.
Iv recently had the exact same problem.. the replacement chip is 225. and another 200 to get the guy to fix it,, but iv recently aquired the number to mits and the gave me the part for free and only charged me to have the guys put the part in..1800-888-6773- hope this helps..

meanwhile if you call MIT and ask, you can save yourself the part cost and get your TV fixed for 200 or less.

Default Losing pixels

I have the same problem with my Mitsubishi 52 in 1080p flat screen tv. I've had it about 4 years, had to replace the bulb this summer and just this week I noticed two pixels were missing, the next day 4, last night 6, this morning 7, and tonight 9 are missing. Very disappointing to be sitting and watching this happen day after day. What needs to be replaced from a repair standpoint? I'm in for the class action suit, seems like this is definitely a defect in the product.

I doubt any judge would rule in your favor since MIT has already been forth coming and stepped up in helping customers get there units fixed. Maybe instead of trying to sow seeds of decent, call MIT like everyong else has and get yours fixed and move on. Mine works great now.
Good Luck.

Goid Luck.

Default Mitsubishi 73" DLP White Spots

I just spoke with Mitsubishi about our white dot plague. We have a 73" that we purchased in May 2008. Although it was long out of warranty they said they would cover the part and offer a prearranged labor cost of $200 like most others. When we pressed a little harder they finally agreed to give us a one time free bulb replacement. We are supposed to receive a disclaimer email within 2 days. When we return it we should then receive our authorization to complete the agreement. We only have 12 dots so far (only took a few days) so hopefully will have it repaired before it gets too bad. Will let you all know! Thank you for the great information.
