Default Samsung HLS5687W DLP "check fan #2" problem

Hello first post here

I have a samsung HLS5687WX/XAA

A few weeks ago the tv started to show a "check fan # 2" message on the screen and then it would shut off.

I took the back cover off and the large fan in the rear of the TV looks to be spinning fine.

If I plug the tv off and leave it unplugged, even for a few days so i know its completely cool and then re-plug, immediately the standby/temp light turns on to a solid red color and stays on. IF you hit the power on button on the tv, then the lamp button blinks green. then the standby/temp light and the timer light blink. THe tv turns on fine and an can be seen fine, but the check fan # 2 message is displayed. After about 5 to 10 min the tv then shuts off and the standby / temp light goes back to a solid red.

BEfore I order a new fan I wanted to see if anyone can shed some light on this. I read it could be the thermistor that is faulty.

I am thinking since the standby temp light is on as soon as the tv is plugged in that its some sort of thermostat problem.

I did blow the back with a can of air to get all the dust off but that didn't help.

I debated about just getting a new tv and selling this one on craigslist for a few hundred, but would prefer to try to fix it first since its only a few years old. Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated.

Edit: would also like to add its not the blue switch in the back which I've held in place with a toothpick to rule out. The tv shuts off and the fan seems to work fine up until the tv shuts off which it then stops obviously, but the tv shuts off first then immediately the fan kicks off. Also, if you turn the tv back on immediately after it shuts off, the tv will remain on for the same 5 to 10 min before it shuts off again. Seems to me if the tv was indeed over heating, the tv would not turn on after it shuts off or at least it would shut off quicker the second time you turn it on.

Take care,
Esteban

I am wondering if it could be the lamp that needs replacing even though the check fan #2 message is showing, the tv is 2 to 3 years old and its on almost the whole day every day.
