Default Samsung DLP bad connection at color wheel power connector

Hey HD forum,

I have a Samsung HL-R5087w

The old color wheel was doing the old chirping sound that many of us know of very well. I went in and replaced it. When I went to replace it while removing the old one the power connector broke into about 10 million pieces of which I had to dig out of the socket. I did so (successfully?) and was able to put the new color wheel in and the connector fit fine.

When I went to start the TV the lamp wouldn't power on nor would the color wheel spin. I was boggled but after some prodding (literally) I noticed if I touched the connector (that is, the color wheel power connector that plugs into the board) at the right spot the TV would start. What I want to know is whether my prodding is completing the connection by pressing the connector in or whether the metal screwdriver I'm using is bypassing some failsafe merely by completing the connection. I feel it's the latter.

If anyone more knowledgeable than me can chime in I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't want to call a tech out considering I'm so close to success and saving myself $300 from a tech visit just for him to tell me I need a whole knew whatever-the-hell-that-board-is-that-the-connector-plugs-into.

If need be I will dismantle the entire thing again and get proper pictures to post to describe my situation in more detail.

Thanks for your time.

I have a Samsung HL-55679-W DLP LED 2+ years old. I suddenly have a problem with Red color outlines and shadows across the screen whether watching TV, DVD or Games.. I checked connections and tried adjusting color, nothing worked. Does this model have a color wheel? Any solutions out there?
