Default HDmi cable question

I hooked up a Monster HDmi cable to my new JVC tv last night. To be honest I cant say that I see any differnce in the picture over the standard cables from the cable company. I dont mind keeping it although I would say to my eye that its not worth the $120 cost of the cable. With that said I would probably just use the HdMI cable but there is another issue that I'm not sure is normal. When the HMDI cable is hooked up to my cable box and TV and I turn the channels there is about a 3-4 second period that the screen goes black until the next channel appears. I called Comcast and they flat out said they dont know what top tell me as there boxes just started using HDMi. They said I was actaully one of the first people to call them about HDMI. So I have two basic questions:
1. Should the signal look noticably better with the HDMI verus the standard cable from Comcast?
2. Should the delay be there with the HDMI cables when turning the channel?

Any help would be appreciated.

First off, Monster Cables are grossly overpriced. If possible, I would return it. You could still get an HDMI cable, but a different brand.

Now, what do you mean by "...standard cable from Comcast?" Before the HDMI cable, how did you connect the cable box to the TV...component, s-video, RF?

Well, if it's HD cable, you would need to use either component or HDMI (/DVI) to carry the HD signal to the TV. However, even if it's just standard def cable, you should be able to notice a fairly reasonable difference going from say composite to HDMI. It should be a much cleaner and clear picture.

As for the picture delay, not sure.

Assuming you're using the speakers built in to the TV, HDMI from STB (set top box) will carry your HD and SD video signals and stereo/pseudo-dolby sound. If you have a Dolby capable receiver, turn TV speakers off and you can pair the HDMI cable with a Digital Optical or Digital Coaxial cable from the STB to your receiver.

As for the delay, haven't a clue.....post your TV and STB info and maybe someone can help.....

You could also use:

DVI cable.....similar to HDMI except carries video only....

Component RCA cables Y/Pb/Pr (Green, Blue, Red) are HD cabable.....they carry the video signal ONLY......you would need to pair this with either Red/White stereo audio cables to your TV or Digital Optical or Digital Coaxial cable to your dolby receiver (if you have one).

Do NOT use:

S-Video.....Composite Video (yellow RCA) or F-connector.......none of these are HD compliant

Hope this helps.....

If your cablebox is configured to 'pass thru' mode, your display will need to resync to the new mode with each channel of different format...

Signals carried over the different HD capable connection types are virtually identical in quality... the big deal with HDMI/DVI is copy protection, not PQ.
