Default New Technology! Is it worth the money?

As I have stated in a previous thread, I am done researching. With further investigation I have settled on the 60" Grand WEGA™ SXRD™ Rear Projection HDTV KDS-R60XBR1 with the new SXRD™ technology.

I have the money ($4,999) to spend on this television, but I just want to know if it is worth the price tag. If you have zero knowledge of this particular TV, go here http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTE...Name=acc&var2=

Well, the R60XBR1 comes out in September and I have until then to lick my visial chops. If you have any information on this particular brand or if you have any positive or negetive advise, please respond.

Thank you in advance,
Lazarus

Why settle on something you have not even seen? There is lots of competition out there. Wait for the reviews to come in also in various publications.
I would not plunk down a lot of money without seeing for myself what looks best for my budget.
There is every reason to believe the SXRD will be a success, but this is just as likely true for LCoS and DLP, and even the latest plasmas.

I definately understand where you are coming from. I haven't seen these new model TVs yet, but I just feel that if the new KDS-R60XBR1 are an improvement or upgrade to what is already an unbelievable (LCD Wega models) brand, how could I go wrong.

I love the sony brand, and I don't want a TV unless it has 1080p acceptability so when the new fangled HD DVD players come out that produce 1080p, I will be ready for them.

Obviously I am new to this forum, so am I an idiot for thinking this way? <Gulp>

Default Keep in mind....

That when JVC first put their HD-ILA's out in the market they had some MAJOR issues so major that they had to recall the whole line. Everthing is fine now with their sets, as a matter of fact they are getting to bo the ones to beat.

The point is, yes it's nice to have the latest and greatest Technology but don't be their test subject. Like the previous poster stated when it comes to new sets wait a few months and see if there are any issues first.

Good Luck

Also, prices will settle some too over that few months. I think it's well worth the wait to put even a bigger smile on your face.

Default Hey, lazarusrevival

Don't get stuck on a brand.

I love the sony brand,
Remember their are alot sets out there. Is Sony good "YES" are they the "BEST" the verdict is still out. When you shop around look at other sets not just for the sony. You might be surprized at what you find.

When I was looking for my new toy . My first thought was sony, but after really looking . I bought the JVC. At one of the BB in my area they had the JVC and Sony sitting next to each other. And the JVC blew me away. While I was their another customer was complaining about his Sony and finally pointed to the JVC and told the sales guy he wanted that instead. Actions speak pretty loud in my book.

Goog Luck.

I really enjoy my Sony, but if I had to buy another display today (after only 6 months!) I really can't say what I would like today without going through the same process I did before. The face of technology is just changing that quickly.

Default Let the dealer eat the depreciation

The Video and Audio magazines and (any tech for that matter)usually have their "benchmark" units that all reviews reference. Often it is last year's high-end model and still surpasses the current models Qualia?- One way of beating the system would be buying that or equivalent model at clearance prices and knowing you are a little behind the curve but just a little- and not a skinned lab animal for the marketing dept at Rich Guys or Hype City - also I find that Crutchfields usually has useful comparison charts IMO - check the customer comments on the unit at Amazon.com too -many of them are thoughtful and informed.
I checked amazon and Crutchfield - i guess there are no cust reviews yet for that model-

I believe the 60" Grand WEGA™ SXRD™ Rear Projection HDTV KDS-R60XBR1 uses the same technology as the Qualia 006 70" @ $13,000 so I doubt if you can go wrong buying it sight unseen.

However, as more competition becomes available (JVC, etc) the price is bound to come down. It may also be wise to wait to be sure that all the bugs are out of this new model.

In any case, I believe you have made a good choice.

The JVC HD61FH96 61" 1080P LCOS TV list price is $5,499.

It is already being offered at KEEN http://keenzo.com/showproduct.asp?ref=FROOGLE&ID=548714
at $4,294, a saving of $1,204.

The price war is starting.

JVC LCOS and SONY SXRD are same technology produces good PQ with less SDE. i would go with SONY if price difference is less than $500.
JVC's are discounted more as compared to SONY.
