Default Mistubishi WD-52627 Color Wheel

I'm probably going to be getting a used WD-52627 DLP TV from someone local for cheap. From what I'm told, The color wheel is noisy and casts a pink light in the corner, and if I replace the color wheel, it'll be fine. The question is, where can I find a color wheel for it? I've searched ebay and google, to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas where I could get one or what the part number would be (Might have better luck searching by part number)?

Thanks

Having a shaded corner means it is most likely the light tunnel not the color wheel which could also be going if it is noisy. But that light tunnel is going to cost a lot of money to fix. They usually just rebuilt the whole light engine which is the highest cost item in the TV by far.

Unless it is given to you for free I would pay more than $10.00 for it with the corner shaded.

I completely agree with PFC5. If indeed it is a light tunnel, which it does sound like it, you can buy a brand new 52" plasma or LCD for just a couple hundred more $$ than getting that light tunnel replaced.

Dumb question: What would make the light unnel go bad? isn't it a static component, unlike the color wheel? Just for grins, does anyone have a part number for the light engine and/or tunnel so I could see what they would cost? I've found some light engines on ebay for other mitsubishi DLP's for the $250-$300 range. Is there any way to fix the light tunnel without replacing it? On the flip side, replacing the light engine would result in an almost new 52" DLP for half (or less) the cost of a new LCD or Plasma...

PFC5, the examples of light tunnels going I've seen result in a dark edge or spot (see pic below borrowed from a user on Audioholics); what's happening on theis one is a pink color in the corner, not shade. Doesn't the light tunnel only channel white light from the bulb down to the DLP chip and color wheel?

It is a lot of work and risk to buy this used problematic TV. You may end up buying a lot of parts to fix it and then STILL not have it running properly. At this point I do not recommend buying Mitsubishi DLPs new never mind used with an already known problem.

It would take a lot of time to try to find parts for it, and then you never know if that will solve the problem. I cannot recommend you buy this and even if given free you might not get it running properly.

Well, I ended up buying it, and with all due respect, I'm glad I didn't listen to you. The problem with the noise was the color wheel; one of the segments moved outward about 1/2 mm, and two where not in line with the other four. Cleaned the light engine, removed all the electronics on the left side and cleaned them out (the dust bunnies where breeding!), Replaced the color wheel (found a "lightly used" light engine from a WD-62628 for a decent price) and re-assembled, and the picture is PERFECT. I don't know what was causing the pink hue (I only saw it when it was turned on before I brought it home, and it wasn't much), but it could have been the messed up color wheel or the dust on the lens and polarizing filter, but after the above mentioned work, it's definately not there.

Before I did buy it, I did some research; from what I found, the newer Mitsubishi DLP's don't have the electronic issues that the older (WD-x2x25's for example) had with bad caps, the Mitsubishi Light engines tend to be reliable, and the light tunnels don't go bad, unlike the Samsung DLP's where the tunnel would collapse (maybe they've fixed that issue since they had those problems in the eariler DLP's). The single biggest drawback that I could find is that when the color wheel's DO go bad, they cannot be purchased individually.

I am glad to be wrong since you bought it.

It could have gone differently though but you lucked out with it just needing the cleaning and new color wheel. Luckily you found a used one in that apparently comparable model.

Glad it all worked out for you.
