Default Samsung DLP making a buzzing noise, but works fine

Hello all,

My Samsung HLP-5063 DLP starting making a loud buzzing noise recently. It seems to works perfectly other than this noise, although my roommate has said that it has turned off by itself after several hours of Xbox 360. I've only used it to watch TV for a half hour or so at a time, as I have a new LED LCD in my room. When I've used it to just watch TV for a half hour to an hour, I've never had any problem with it turning off on its own. Picture is very bright is clear, it just makes this obnoxious noise constantly, and continues to make the noise for about five seconds after the TV is turned off. I've already tried removing the color wheel and lubricating the bearing on it, but that hasn't made any difference. Other than that, I can't figure out what might be causing it. I don't want to drop $100+ for a part and find out that it's not the right part I need to fix this thing. So, home theater experts, what seems to be the culprit? Color wheel? Lamp? Ballast? Help!

Here's a video I took of the problem:

I have same set and it most definitely sounds like color wheel. there are only 2 moving parts in this set, 2 fans and 1 color wheel. wheel shuts down after about 5-10 seconds after power off signal but fans run for about 20-30 seconds to cool lamp down.

1 fan is behind lamp and other is on processor on DMD board. if you replace wheel with the air bearing type, you will need to remove the jumper on connector CN810 if it is there and/or if the colors are messed up after new install.

if/when you replace this wheel, please let me know if you would like to part with the old one as I have an issue with mine not starting right away after putting in a used wheel (not sure if it really worked to start but was free). Your old one seems to be in working order (not for long by sound though) and I just want to rule out if wheel is issue or not.

I figured it was probably the color wheel, but wanted to confirm it here first. My next question is, where can I get a new/certified used color wheel for the best price?

$140 = ouch

I plan to get this TV in working order, then sell it for around $400, as I don't need it now that I have my LCD

It's a little cheaper at www.samsungparts.com about $125;

Hi,If you are getting a black and white picture,color discoloration or a humming high pitch sound, it will be an issue with the color wheel.The color wheel is a rotating disc that spins at high rpm and its in charge of creating the colors on your set. You can replace it
your self check for instructions online.

My sound was a little different than yours but it could also just be the bulb. Mine was buzzing and making a semi loud humming sound, then I noticed the light on the front meaning replace bulb. I replaced the bulb and the humming stopped.
