Default Great Buying Time - Ultimate Electronics

For those who don't already know, Ultimate Electronics is going out of business. They will begin clearance sales on April 9th. So if you've been waiting for a great deal on a TV, this would be an opportune time to purchase.

The retailer, which operates 62 stores in 14 states, said it would close 30 stores in Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota, Texas and Utah, by June 30.

About 965 employees will be affected the closures, including 65 central office employees.

It plans to continue to operate 32 stores in Arizona, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico and Oklahoma. The filing did not mention stores in Colorado, which operate under the SoundTrack name, or in Idaho and Illinois.

Default Ultimate Electronics Amendment

Ultimate Electronics doesn't have their "stuff" together, to put in nicely. I went to a local store (DFW) bright and early Saturday morning when their clearance sales was suppposed to begin. What I found was the store as usual, with nothing discounted.

I spoke to a salesperson...he said that the company didn't know at the time (Saturday, 4/15) whether it would be bought out by another company or shut down entirely. Hence, they were delaying the clearance sale.

He told me that most of the stuff would be sold to liquidators, and the general public will not even benefit much from their closing.

But he did, however, offer me a Mistubishi DLP for $2900, marked down from $3,200. He said they were cutting their profit margin as much as possible. HA! Its the MO for these stores to have a standing 10% off of any purchase before you even walk into the store...check any Best Buy/Circuit City ad..."10% all Home Theatre products $299 and up."

But boy, that salesman wanted me to walk out the door with that DLP. Right!
