Default Directv Costco $200

I just signed up online for DTV through Costco's DirecTV website to take advantage of the $200 Costco cash card offer. I was surprised they didn't ask for my Costco membership number and there was no confirmation that I'd be getting the $200 gift card at the end of the sign-up process. All the other new customer discounts showed up in my cart. Anybody have experience with this? Should I just take it on faith that I'll be getting the Costco cash card 6 - 8 weeks after installation?

I wouldn't take anything on faith with them. when I signed up they tried to screw me out of the referral discounts even though it showed on their confirmation e-mail. I also took screen shots of the whole sign up process showing the referrals and it's a good thing as I had to hassle with them to straighten it out.

If you don't have any other proof, do a chat with them to confirm it so you can have it in writing and if not, I would cancel it and start over.

Default A Costco/Genie question...

I've been a DTV customer for several years and want to upgrade to a Genie for a new home we're moving into. The few times I've called them, I've gotten the "song and dance" routine of about close to $400 to get Genie.

Now that I'm moving in about 2 months, I'm tempted to call them one last time about upgrading or ELSE (read Dish). A few minutes ago I saw this Costco offer of free Genie with all the other bennies. I know they're not going to give a present customer this deal, so I'm wondering if my wife called with our new address for this deal if she would get it. AFAIK, DTV does not have her name associated with my present account.

Yes, she has the same last name, but so do a lot of other people. Anyone think this would "fly"?

Not enough information. Are you presently under contract? The answer to that question dictates any response you may get.

No, I'm not under contract and I would assume if I were to tell DTV I was moving to a new location they wouldt offer me a Genie with a new contract.

Re my Costco question, has anyone cancelled a DTV account and then started a new one up a a new address using the spouse's name to get the biggest, best deal they have. In this case, a free Genie and a $200 Costco gift card>

If you're not under contract you have leverage to begin with because you can walk with no penalty. What I'd do is just cancel when you move and give it a shot with your wife's name at the other end. With a new address and if she wasn't named anywhere on your current account (including a credit card or bank account used for your payments), they may not make the connection. For payment, though, I would get a credit card or bank account in her name.

My guess is that when you call to cancel they will make you an offer that will match the Costco deal less the $200.

I'll let you and any other reader know what happens. Our move in date is June 12th.

Really?? screw you out of referrals?????? How many discounts do you think you should be able to combine????

Sounds like a tight ass to me!!!!

The smart circle dealer only sets up accounts one way accross the nation. EVERYONE gets free movies, and the standard package of choice. Any extra sports or add ons or removal of free stuff you would have to do on your own after install. Also they do not setup referrals as well. This keeps the 20,000 jobs a month in order and eliminates thousands of account setup options. You are then rewarded with $200, WOW cant believe you could bitch about that......

Also you can still add the referrral after activation through this group.

Wow, it takes all kinds.......

Don't know what your problem is, but you're making assumptions that don't exist. The referral credit wasn't combined with anything else and I don't know why you assume it was. That's irrelevant anyway, as 2 parties making an agreement constitutes a contract. When a credit or discount is part of the contract, it should be honored. You need to get your facts straight before calling someone names. I have my facts straight and what do you think they indicate you are?

Once you quit DirecTV, you can't come back as a "new" customer for 2 years. Even if you used your wife's name or credit card, it would still be the same address. That's what they go by. Don't try to strong arm them, go with the kill them with kindness approach or you won't get anything. So think hard before quitting, because DirecTV is by far, better than Dish.

Well, it would be a new address although I'll grant you it would be the same name.

Name 3 ways DTV is better than Dish. I don't care two hoots about the NFL Game day. DTV sucks in regards to the Pac12 Network as they still are dragging their heels on that one. I would pay extra for it, but they don't offer it. And then there's Sling with Dish.

So respectfully, what are the compelling reasons to stay with DTV?

I have Dish now I had Direct before they both screw you any way they can
and every chance they get so do AT&T and Comcast .

The HD picture quality at least on this install seems slightly better than what I had with DTV but then again both TV sets are new and comparing a 2010 Dish installation/equipment vs a 2004 DTV install and equipment . I will say at least in my case the field installers/techs and field service have been better with Dish although their phone operators are sometimes (usually) not very good .Of course field tech service can vary by franchise .

I have ATT U verse internet their field techs seem to be very good.
I'm even staying with Dish out of contract because the service overall has been better and more reliable than DTV was at least in my case.

I had more intermittent downtime with DTV sometimes for days none so far with Dish
Took DTV 2 yrs to figure out my initial install was not done right and solve the problem the one time they sent out a good tech that guy was pretty good.

So after that when Dish came out with a good initial deal I switched.
DTV didn't offer any customer retention incentive. I'm sure Dish wouldn't either FWIHR.
I'm sure there are exact opposite experiences just my 2 cents.

I closed my account, been with FIOS for the last three months, didn't like FIOS now going back to DTV with all sort of perks inluding the genie.

Default Best possible deal updated

Updated $200 Costco Card, $10 off for 10 months from referral, 200,000 Viggle points (trade in $75 Best Buy Card), and NFL Pkg.
I read the posts and decided to give this a try but it didn’t work out the way everyone says it does. The information seems outdated, I believe it’s from people just copying and pasting this info with their account # added just for the referrals, much has changed. It won’t let you get the referral program unless you know what to do. I just went through all of this and here are steps to receive the referral program and possibly both promo’s. The road blocks are;
1) You can’t combine Costco Promo with the Referral Program online, it sends you a message saying you can’t combine.
2) Viggle or Costco Promo can’t be combined with any other offer
To get around these you will invest a bit of your time.
1) Just search Costco DIRECTV and follow and click on the DIRECTV - Costco spot.
2) You should see DIRECTV Costco cash card promotion page. Click on "Click HERE" box. It should take you to DIRECTV Costco Connection Center. This will activate the cash card promotion. You will see a message that says “The site you are transferring to isn’t hosted by Costco.” Click O.K. and you will come to a new page. Make sure that it says “Costco” in upper left corner so you know you are still getting the promotion. Click the “View All Packages” button
3) Enter zip code. Go through and pick out your package, the receivers, and any other equipment you would like. Side note the new Genie is fantastic.
4) Press the “Proceed to Checkout” and it will show you the cost, what discounts that have been applied, and what you would expect to pay per month.
5) This is where everyone else’s information goes wrong; the referral link will give you a notice saying “promotions can’t be combined” no matter what you do..So continue with the check out program, set up your install appointment, and finish up your order.
6) Use your smart phone; download the Viggle app. Set up a new account and make sure that you use the same email address that you used for DIRECTV.
7) Call DIRECTV immediately after both are done. Use this #, 1-800-531-5000, it is the direct # to DIRECTV not the #’s linked to the promotions. Enter your # and then 2 for change order. Be polite and joke around to help the cause. Say you have 2 things that you forgot when ordering online. 1st you would like to add the refer program. Do not mention the Costco promotion; they can’t see it on their end so they will add the discount. They will ask for an account number, Please use my account number “77346251” and they will have to verify the last name on my account “Minnick”
8) Say you saw a Viggle promotion right after you signed up and would like that to be applied to your account. I did this for myself and I was successful but when I did the same thing for my Father-in-Law it didn’t so it’s 50/50 whether you get this. They will tell you that you have to cancel your online application and redo it using the Viggle website. Explain to them that you just spent 1 hour going through all of that and don’t want to redo it, politely ask if there is anything they can do because this would be a huge inconvenience, you don’t have the time to redo it right now, and don’t want to lose your installation date. They will get a supervisor and may apply this to your account. The kicker is if they don’t give it to you ask if they can do anything else for the trouble and when I did this for my Father-in-Law I received and extra $5 off for 12 months. So instead of Viggle points ($75 Best Buy card) you get an extra $60 off your package instead.
9) Enjoy. We both received the Costco cards about 4-5 weeks after we signed up in early July and I still have to what 53 more days until my Viggle account will have the points added.
I hope this helps everyone out and I thank you in advance for using my account number and name. If you have any questions let me know because I will be watching this site and would be glad to help.
