Hello all, name is Danny and new to this forum. Just a few questions nothing to noobish. I'm currently working on a project that uses digital signage inside waiting areas of offices that are high on floor traffic and lighting. Each office is obvi different in size and therefore demands different displays for our digital signage. An idea i came up with and was put in charge of was looking into using FP's. Now I did some simple research and found that I would want something with a high lumens. Like I had stated before the office has lots of windows and is very well lit. So what would be a good range for the lumens to be at?
This is a very stressful project on our displays since they will be on 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. So my major debate is if FP's are even worth it. I know that lamps very in life span and filters need to get changed every 3-6 months. Thats more money spent on maintenance, which is the opposite of what we want. So on anyones expert opinion would a FP be ideal for our project or just go bigger on the LCD screens we use now? |

The size image you want to display will be critical in determining the lumens required. Also the screen type will have a great effect. They make a "black magic" screen, Sony, I think, that absorbs light that comes in at an angle which could be used to assist contrast for high light areas. 720p projectors tend to be the higher lumens output for the price vs the 1080p units. projectorcentral.com has projector calculators for just about any projector made. An example: http://www.projectorcentral.com/Opto...ulator-pro.htm
Probably all things considered the projectors would not be the best things for your application. |

I agree that FP is likely not the solution. I think an LCD flat panel would be the best for this application. Of course we do not know the sizes needed or preferred. I think most FP lamps have much shorter life spans compared to DLP sets, so a large DLP might be another option if space allows for about a 14" depth.

Thanks guys! We really haven't establish a set size. Right now our standard issue displays are the Sharp Aquos 46" LCD. I'm also looking into LED-backlit LCD. To determine the size we would need screen shots of the waiting room but it would be no bigger then 70" i would imagine.
While doing some research i started to realize that screen size does play an effect on the lumens, just like you had stated rbinck. But i was kinda guesing on this fact and didn't want to seem to noobish, haha. While thanks for the help but it seems like i won't be looking at FP's for this project. Although my home theater is begging to have one lol. |
