Default best PJ under $3k street price

Have a fully light controlled HT. Carada BW 104" screen. Room length is 22'. Don't care about 3D. Hoping for a good one, my current PJ has lasted me 12 years.

Sony VPL HW40ES is a great candidate.

Both those projectors have great pictures but the Panny has powered lens with anamorphic capablility, greater horiz and vertical sync range , more lumens, longer bulb life, variable iris and also does 3d. IMHO that makes it an easier choice. Both were Editor's choiceProjector of the year from Projector central Sony 2014 and Panny 2015

The Sony does 3D. I thought about the AE8000 but since Panasonic is getting out of the HT PJ business and it seemed like recent deliveries were experiencing higher than normal failures, decided to get the Sony. Just didn't want to get in the return business and I know the owner of the Panasonic repair center.

I hadn'trealized the Panny finally pulled the plug on home projector market. I can understanmd the hesitancy. I may start looking for an 8000 now though as my last panny has been going strong for nearly 8 years and I love it still.

You might want to go check out some of the comments on the recent 8000 deliveries on the AVS forum
