Default Optima HD20 burn spot [picture]

Hello everyone,

I have had an optoma HD20 for about 3 years and I've replaced the bulb once. Recently, a dark spot has developed in he center of the screen and I'm not sure what to do.
I took out the bulb and examined it with a flashlight and I noticed a very small blemish behind the glass which resembles the spot. Replacing the bulb back to the old one didn't make the spot disappear so I worry that it has been burned into the lens somehow. I haven't found any answers after searching forums.

I want to know if continuing to use my projector will damage it any further and what I can do to get it repaired/fix myself.

Thanks for any input.
Ian

See if you can acquire a new plastic optical lens.

Yours has burned.

Default Optoma HD20

I also have had an Optoma HD20 for about 4 years now. About 8 months ago the color wheel broke so I purchased a new one from Optoma and installed it myself. At the same time the bulb was due to be replaced and I had a black blob in the center of the screen and was told by a tech at Optoma that the DLP Engine needed to be replaced. I purchased a new one ($199.00) and installed it myself. I am a tech and have been doing this kind of work for around 25 years. It was pretty much straight forward and the picture was amazing after getting all the goodies installed. That was 8 months ago and the black blob is back again, worse than the first time. I took off the short throw lens and noticed my convex lens is burnt to a crisp! This is definitely a blow to my pocket! I spoke with Optoma and the tech advised the warranty is out on both the unit and the part itself. The tech also advised they are not designed to be used more than 4 hrs per day. Seems to me they would make the lens with glass instead of plastic as hot as they get. Anyone have any input regarding LED projectors?
