I bought and installed an XM radio add-on kit in my car about a month ago and I really enjoy it. The kit was about $59 at Walmart. I also bought the XMFM1 FM radio adapter. It's way better than that crummy XM SureConnect Adapter that came with the kit. I'm paying for the $9.95/month subscription package. That's plenty of commercial free music channels for me. I didn't want the subscription package with the talk radio stuff.

Had a rental car for the last two weeks with the service. I really liked it.

...or have a long daily commute~
I just had to get a new car this past March, and it came w/XM radio free trial. It was "OK", but then, I stopped listening to "music radio" on my daily commute as of the morning of 9/11, when I started listening to AM News radio. I just never went back for some reason~ Anyway, when the trial expired, I did not extend the service, because IMO, even $10-$12 a month is too much. However, they called me last week, and offered me a 6 month deal for only $5.00 a month (total = $30 bucks!!) so after I confirmed that there wasn't any "catch", I agreed. I just need to cancell prior to 12/31 so that it doesn't "auto-renew" at the "normal" rate.

Yeah maybe, but then AM radio is sufficient for news, sports, talk radio. For music, I have mp3z. One thing that is nice on XM is the audio stream of cable news. IMHO sat radio will always be a niche market... The future of talk radio may be internet streaming

@ home, I have one of those streaming internet radios on my nightstand (Logitech Squeezebox Boom). It's pretty cool because you can basically get pretty much any station in the world that streams over the internet. The radio is wifi, so not only does it get any of those streaming stations, but it also gets Pandora, and several other music sites. It can also stream your MP3 collection right from your hard drive~ I use it for an alarm clock!

![]() Let's see - approx $60 + tax for the equipment, and at approx. $10/month for the service that's approx. $120/year for the service. Are you saying you'd have to win the lottery before you could afford that ? ![]() Times must be pretty tough for tipstir these days. ![]() Thanks for letting me know - HD Radio is free, just have to buy the HD Radio. I didn't know that. Wow !! ![]() AM/FM radio is also free, just have to buy the AM/FM radio. The trouble with local HD radio is that you get the same thing as the local FM radio staions, including the commercials. XM radio service is commerical free. Sometimes you get a litte DJ chi-chat or XM radio station ID between songs, but no commercials. Last edited by glennb1; 07-09-2009 at 11:56 AM. |

When I'm in the car I tune to one of the available NPR stations 90% of the time.
The other 10%, I listen to my mp3 music. Different strokes I guess. |

I tried listening to NPR but found it boring. I tend to listen to sports, news, talk, and political comedy (limbaugh, hanity, etc)

I bought the XM Xpress satellite radio receiver with car kit model XMCK10AB for $59.85 at Walmart. They have pretty much the exact same thing at Best Buy for $85.99. As far as I can tell the one at Best Buy supposedly has a remote control with it. If paid about $26 less than the Best Buy price and I didn't get a remote, so what, I don't need the remote. The radio is within reach.

Nice.. I have the Roady XT. Part of me wants to upgrade, but I can't justify spending the money when my unit works perfectly fine.
