If you don't have satellite radio, don't start if you are against pay radio.
I like it a lot, especially on the road, but not having frequent commercials is very seductive and becomes even more so with time.
We have it in one car and at home. I take the digital out of a refurbed Polk XM tuner and feed into my receiver (better analog circuitry) but it is still very notably compressed compared to a good CD.

Anyway the card holds 1000 songs I have it foldered or you can have it play by anyway you want.

Hey it's your money you worked many hours to make that $60 bucks so that's was 6 hours right!
Having a vehicle with voice recognition is a waste of money. Are you crippled ? Can't be bothered to reach over and turn on the radio or AC yourself ?

BTW...
I worked 10 hours to make that $60.

Another BTW....
You look like an idiot when you type - $60 bucks
That sounds like a line some really bad broken english speaking asian person would say in a comedy movie.
You should say 60 bucks or $60 not $60 bucks.

My XM subscription just ended but I dont think I'm going to renew it. The only time I ever used it was to listen to stand up comedy on the 4 hour drives to and from college and occasionally I would turn on the one Hard Rock station they had (I forget the name of it)

I just never used it enough to get my moneys worth, especially now that I figured out how to hook up my iPod to my car

EDIT: Octane, thats the name of the station

Agree, an iPod, mp3, etc. is certainly a more cost-effective alternative.

Cost effective alternative.
It was $60 for the hardware and $10/month for the service. How much does an ipod cost ? How much do you shell out to itunes a month ?

I don't think $60 for the radio and $120/year for the service is that big of a deal. I wasn't concerned enough to look for a more cost effective alternative.

To each his own I guess.

I was only responding to Slick Joe's post....but since you mention it:

I don't pay e-music or iTunes subscriptions. So much for making assumptions.

I have an mp3 player ($80) I load up from a Russian website...averaging 9c a track. No additional fees, just deposit $20 at a time and work it off.

I would have to be on there for 10 years to spend $120 at the rate I'm going.

I listen to same music maybe 2 or 3 months at a time before loading in more.
Of course, if I dumped XM that would increase, but still be cheaper for only listening to music. Naturally, XM offers more than only music which is why I am still on there. It has little additional value than offering more than music, regardless of the cost.

I work in the middle of an office building, and can't get AM/FM reception. Bought a signal repeater and my little XM radio provides me with crystal clear reception over my ipod docking station speakers. For me, the $12/mth is well worth it.

Wow! I can't believe the satellite music haters. How much do you spend on satellite TV or digital cable? 10X for sure. I have 2 subscriptions (1 for the wife) and would give up pay tv before my Sirius. Both my wife and I drive all day long in city traffic so for us it is a no brainer. The music on regular radio sucks IMO and am radio sounds like crap. Sirius/XM's programming can not be beat and the variety of commercial free music is awesome. Where else are you going to hear a 34 minute live jam?

I know, I know. I can't believe the ones that think it's sooooooo expensive. Like I said earlier, I'm only paying about $10/month. Most people could skip one take out pizza a month, or something like that to be able to handle paying $10/month for satellite radio if they wanted to.

I used to turn my FM radio off a lot when I couldn't find something to listen to. Now my XM is on the whole time I'm driving. I actually enjoy the XM radio DJ chit-chat once in a while. It's better than the local DJ chit-chat about one of the radio personalities blind date last night, or some stupid morning radio show call in contest.

Actually, for me the XM tuner itself was the most expensive part because it was made to integrate with my car. The Infiniti has a SAT button on the dash.
I installed it myself..quite easy if the car has the harness already.
And that's a discounted price.

But the overall performance and stealthness of it all makes it worthwhile
Tuner comes with a coupon to cover 6 months of your subscription.

I have a 2005 model car. In 2006 the same model car was XM radio ready where all you'd have to do is get an XM tuner for it.
