Yes but when you don't pay for the policy and you go to prison for 5 years, you get free health care!

I am getting tired of reading about the proposals and possible idiotic aspects of the healthcare bill. I don't think a law will be passed that puts someone in jail for not purchasing healthcare insurance. If such a bill is near approval, send me to a site where I can read about it. Healtcare insurance for all is great but how in the world can this bankrupt government pay for it? Obviously the only answer is have the wealthier Americans pay for the less wealthy so why not just be honest about it and structure it so that it can be understood?

Because they need plenty of clauses to hide the special interest paybacks. This is why I stopped voting for incumbents regardless of party. If they will not give themselves term limits i will do my part to give it to them.

Really??

The ".gov" web site is paid for by our taxes; but hosted by Republican Dave Camp; and the article was written by Camp's staffers.

If you really believe that just because it's on a ".gov" site, it's less biased, I've got a bridge you might be interrested in.

But your right, it's not the right wing media lying . . .
it's a right wing member of congress using governmet funds to promote his propaganda and fight political battles.

You bring up a valid point. The problem is that we are not allowed to see the final bill before voting. 2000+ pages that will affect almost every person in the country and we are not allowed to see it. We were promised by congressional leadership that it would be posted 72 hours before vote. They want to vote this weekend and no such access. I wonder why that could be.

I get a kick out of the Dems standing there and lying saying that the American people want this bill to pass. The American people want health care reform but they do not want this monstrocity of a bill. Once again the dems equating what they want into what the whole country wants.

That's the way politics work. The ones in the majority,,,govern to what they think the people want. Since one side has been nothing but obstructionist, the other side (the ones in power) said the hell with them and decided that doing something was better than doing nothing. It's a sorry state of affairs when the health debacle could of and should of been handled 10-20 years ago. But the republicans blocked it back then,,,when with a bit of foresight, they could of passed their own version.

In a manner of speaking, YES!!!

The article is, at best, bad "journalism", but more to the point, it is pure propaganda.

By comparison, our federal and state income tax laws have similar criminal penalties for failure to comply, abuse or fraud.

The reality is that the statement "Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail" is both false and misleading.
Only "willful failure" to comply can result in either a misdemeanor or a felony charge . . . either of which "could" carry a jail sentence.
What's wrong with that?

According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.

What are they going to do? Put 20 million Americans in jail?

"hey what are you in for?"

"I killed my wife - and you?"

"I didn't buy a health care policy."

People elect these people to represent them and their ideals not to push there agenda disregarding what those people want. The republicans want reform but not at the cost of destroying a health care system that works. Changes are needed but Dems just want control and couldn't care less about what the people want.

What's wrong with that?
By turning insurance into a tax so they can call it "criminal" to not be able to afford it is BS and you should know it. What do these people get for this "reform" who cannot afford the insurance? It is turning into the same money grab that the state of Mass. did plain and simple. It isn't about insuring people but getting more revenue from those that don't have it and if they fine them, they get more moeny and those people are that much further away from being able to get insurance creating a catch 22.

They didn't even invite republicans to the committees for the most part except a liberal republican in name only (Olympia Snow) from Maine and even SHE is not liking what she is seeing now with the forced public option. No way anyone can think the dems actually tried for any bipartisan reform with a straight face.
