Default Windows 7

Has anyone tried a pre-release test version ?

Is there anyone planning to get it the first day it comes out ?

Me will probably wait a while before me buys Windows 7 for me puter.

Me just went to the microsoft website to learn what's new in Windows 7. They mention Windows Media Center as if it's a new thing. They have that in Windows Vista. I don't even use it in Windows Vista. The other "new features" don't seem like anything I'd be interested in.

I'm using the final (RTM) Windows 7 Ultimate x64 because I have a Technet membership. Of all the operating systems I've ever used Windows 7 was the most painless to install and set up.
You have to get used to the interface though and you must first check that your rig is ready for it. You should also be prepared for no email client. There are hacks one can do to bring back Window Mail or you can download your own, such as Windows Live Mail. Sidebar has gone too, in favour of free floating gadgets, but that can be hacked back too if you want it.
Quicklaunch has been combined into the new taskbar but can also be hacked back to Vista-type QL. But then I'm sure you've read all about it.
A great forum for help and Tute's on how to do the above and a lot more is here:

I have 2 Home Premium Upgrade copies on order from Amazon.
I'll be upgrading from XP which will be a bit more fun but I'm looking forward to it.

OK upgrading from XP can be done but it isn't as straightforward as upgrading from Vista. I suggest you do a lot of reading first.

Basically you'll be doing a clean install of Windows 7 using the upgrade edition: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ndows-7-a.html

Thanks for the input!

Been reading up on it, looking forward to cleaning up and speeding up the drives on the 2 computers.
I've cloned both drives just in case I have an issue

My position is as follows.

1. I know how to use win XP, how to patch its security holes, and see no compelling reason to upgrade.

2. I have tried it and it stinks, windows vista is a dud, bloatware, and even if Microsoft will not publically admit it, its been a huge Microsoft mistake.

3. Windows 7 may or may not be a better future OS, and even if it is that better OS, I will wait at least six months after release to let Microsoft work the bugs out.

4. Unless Microsoft offers clear and compelling evidence of new features I need in windows 7, I will stick to windows XP.

5. Maybe by waiting, some other company will offer a better OS at a far lesser cost. And we can all say goodbye to the de facto Microsoft
monopoly.

Now that's what I'm talkin'bout Willis. Besides with Windows 7, Microsoft owns your computer, you don't. They can do with it whatever they want...

A semi-tweaked Win7 OS still needs 80 tasks running. Some on manual and some automatic. This is directly from Black Vipers web site (strongly recommend). Me WinXP system - semi-tweaked has 16 tasks running. It ticks up to 17 tasks when running intense programs such as Vegas Plat Pro. Does Win7 bring enough to the table to warrant the price? Nope. It be a re-badged version of Vista, a little skinnier but not much. For those running Vista, yes it would be a good idea to upgrade to 7. A better idea would be to go with XP pro. A challenge goes out to anybody that can prove Win7 will outperform XP.

I am sticking with XP Pro myself. I need backward compatibility with DOS for some bread & butter programs and I certianly do not want to spend 2 weeks looking for all my software install discs and product keys for everything I use still.
