That doesnt mean anything. For example no one would care if Bush only 'intended' to go to Iraq but didnt. That would get a short paragraph in the history books.

A lot of people can't afford private schools. It would be nice to have the option to choose to send my kids to a private school and let my tax dollars support that school if I choose, but that would take away tax dollars from the government schools. Can't have that apparently. Some guy listed an "alternative" lesson plan that I think the first point hits the nail on the head.
Shame you dont have that kind of reasoning in other areas..

"1. President and Mrs. Obama have chosen to send their daughters to private school, at a cost of about $29,000 a year for each girl. What choices, if any, should other parents have about where their children go to school and about how to pay for educating their children?"

That's a good question.
They have no choice since anything better would result in higher taxes. And no one would stand for that.

That's just a stupid thing to say. No point even bothering.
Yeah the president should just shut up.

I asked my daughter what she thought of Obama's speech today and she was perplexed..."what speech?" she said. I do like being behind the Orange Curtain!

You could throw a billion $ per student per year in government schools and still get nothing, except each teacher would have 100 supervisors and 200 "experts" standing around trying to figure out why the kids are still not learning much. Government schools don't suffer from a lack of funding, they suffer because they're government schools.

That is not true in ALL public schools. In my town our school system is in the top 2% at all grades for the state. That is why house prices have held better than many others just 1 town away. The reason WHY there can be so much difference between towns is likely because of the gov't not doing their jobs the same everywhere. My son says college so far is asier than HS was. Granted the year just started, but I think that says something about the schools in my town.

Of course some towns have less intelligent people in it since some of this is hereditary/genes and that could limit how good a school could be as well because some cannot learn do to limited intelligence.

The only problem I have with your statement about the school ratings is this...who sets the criterion for the rating? When you're being compared against other government run schools, well...you're just being compared to other government (liberal) run schools. Also, the schools just tailor their curriculum to do well in the ratings (the liberal agenda via the teachers unions) and not necessarily to better teach the kids the things that they need to do well in our society. When it comes to ratings, it's all relative.

One other thing I've noticed. When we were looking for a house in the Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley area, EVERYONE we talked to said that their school was just the best. But, when I went online and looked at the ratings, many of the schools that the parents raved about were very, very low on the rating scale. No one wants to think that their kid is going to an under rated school.

As 1955 pointed out, what are they comparing it to? As for college being easier than HS, it probably is. I sure thought it was. There is no rule that says learning has to be hard. That's a point of mine, they're doing it wrong. I see a trend trying to extend school days in an effort to get better results. If you can't do it in 6-7 hours, 8 isn't going to help anything. Most likely it just makes it worse. Having young kids sitting at a desk 8 hours a day is just stupid. I have several .gov teachers in my family, I see the BS going on. One of them was taught to get the bright students to stay along side the regular students to help them along. That might be fine for the regular students but the bright students are getting cheated.

I started college last week, and it's such a breath of fresh air. Based on the syllabus' I got from my profs, the classwork looks pretty simple and straight to the point. Definitley doesn't look any harder than HS. And it's great to see faculty that are nice and treat you like adults. Over at the dictatorship shithole (aka HS), if you break the rules, RUH ROH, mommy gets a phone call home that her son's been misbehaving. Can't tell you how many times I was threatened with the ''I'll call your parents if...'' BS. Most of the teachers were snotty and usually on their period and the administration were some of the most egotistical douchebags to ever walk the face of the earth. Oh, and I don't have to deal with that repetitiveness, anymore. Get up at 7am, go to 6 or 7 classes and then leave at 2:30. And repeat that process for five days of the week, for 10 straight months. Yah, glad i'm done with that. Now I have 1 class on Mondays and Fridays, two classes on Tuesdays and Wednesday's and three classes on Thursdays. Not to mention I get to sleep at least until noon everyday.

/rant over.

Heh cool..enjoy college...fun times. What is your major, if u don't mind my asking? Hopefully college won't get you in too much debt. Skools nowadays are so expensive. BTW, college profs can be snobs as well...and those TA's (teacher assistants) can be hard to understand. Did ur skool make a big deal about obama's speech? I imagine the discussions in the poli-sci classes were interesting. I'd love to talk economix and world affairs with my profs now... I could teach them a few things

I don't really see the problem with getting up at noon every day. I mean, I still plan on going to class every day and trying to get good grades. Shame on me for not being a morning person?

Well said.

That cartoon posted in this thread is a perfect representation of what has been happening lately.

The only good I can see in all of this, is that rational, intelligent people will be able to see how juvenile and ignorant these morons are, and it will (hopefully) guarantee that their political party will continue to shrivel & fade away to obscurity...
