It's 2012 now and MP3 players have been evolved to what they are today, and I'm looking for the best one that is offered now.
This is my criteria: - Only MP3 (no videos) - At least 8 GB - Comparatively long battery life - FM transmitter I would prefer it not to be touch, but I guess it would be OK. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I guess when you go for an 8 GB model it also comes with the video option. Moreover, a video option is always a good thing to have along with your audio player. Perhaps you are more concerned about the size. I would suggest you to go for the Sony model as there is nothing like Sony when it comes to sound and video clarity. Consider the 4GB NWZB163 which is really great. Well 8GB, I am not sure!!

I know your question asks the best one offered now, but your thread title says ever, so I'm going to answer the ever part... I still use my Dell DJ which is waaay outdated and bulky, let me tell you why. In the 10 years I have owned this thing, I have dropped it off a ladder onto concrete, had it fly out of my pocket while going 10-15 mph on my bike and roll/bounce at least 10' down the road, dropped it in a puddle, left it in the freezing cold and blistering heat in my truck, smacked hard it on who-knows-how-many things, and it works the same as the day I bought it (which on the downside does include having to reset it when frozen about once a week, a problem since day 1).

I love my Galaxy Player 5.0. The sound is fantastic and it has stereo speakers. The earphones are great too. The sound quality is surprisingly good. I couldn't be happier.
