Marlowe- Nevermind. Convoluted rambling.
F91- The great slusho mystery is another thing that has me wondering if Bad Robot Productions would tie the worlds together. Hasn't been in Fringe yet, soon I am sure though.

I don't know why some people keep thinking that this movie is a prequel , it isn't - it's a total reboot of the franchise . Which is to say everything done before is thrown out and movies can now be made without endless research on what happened before in all the previous series and movies . I've read that was a big problem when writing the script of Nemesis , which BTW only did 43 million at the box office - little more than half the opening weekend of the new Trek . Below is The Onion's take on trekkie displeasure with the new film .

And there is definately homage paid to the old Trek if you know where to look for it . From the opening scene with the sound of the beeping on the old bridge in the original series , the orange skinned alien on the bridge -an obvious nod to the 70s animated series , and when Admiral Kirk was asked how he beat the unwinnable Kobayoshi Maru simulation at the academy in Wrath of Khan , he took a bite of what ? Probably more that I didn't notice upon first viewing , but that's why movies like this must be viewed more than once . Oh and the biggest change in ST canon IMO was the change in Klingons from merely bronze skinned to crested heads - lamely explained in the DS9 crossover Trouble With Tribbles episode by Worf as "we don't talk about those (type of Klingons) ."

I was LMAO over that one. He's got a point though...to me the new Uhura is absolutely gorgeous, but bigger cans couldn't hurt, this is a Hollywood movie after all.

Look, I enjoy gasping at monstrous melons as much as the next lad, but as hot as the younger Uhura was, the whole "sexy Uhura" thing making her out to be like a walking Victoria's Secret model just didn't fit; this younger generation loves this shit -- every horror remake has exploited the chisled abs on the dudes, the tight firm perfect asses on the young ladies, and now we have a buff, outrageously physical young Kirk that was there merely for female eye candy...I just didn't buy it.

To me, this tactic ruined remakes like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and House of Wax, and while gazing at the super-hot Jessica Beil's delicious ass or Paris Hilton's tight bod is indeed delightful, you can just sense that they were there strictly for window dressing -- they did nothing for the narrative and stretched the limits of the serious "believability" of the originals.

I think I said this before, but I'll say it again. TOS was no less full of eye candy than the newest versions. Kirk (while sucking in his stomach after his shirt was always conveniently ripped off) was constantly getting on with some alien poontang, and though they might not compare to the Victoria Secret types in today's movies, they were just as HOT in their time. I mean, just look at the total mini skirts of the female crew!!! And what about Yeoman Janice Rand??? Hot for her time, just like Nichelle Nichols was!

You sound like you're trying to make TOS so pristine and pure of anything remotely "Hollywood" that I'm starting to wonder if you've seen TOS?

All I'm saying is, that at the time of TOS, the producers tried to get the hottest chicks that they could afford also, and MANY of the episodes were ALL about sex.

This is fun, I hope you think so also!

You're asking have I ever seen the ORIGINAL SERIES?

Oh, yes, my son...indeed I have; grew up on a steady diet of it...Charlie's crush on your mentioned Yeoman Rand in "Charlie X"...Kirk's undermining attempt at getting under Spock's skin in "Shore Leave" in which he calls Sarek a "computer" and that Spock should be squatting in a mushroom instead of passing himself off as a man...that smokin' hot yeoman in "Mirror, Mirror" in the alternate universe that plots to get rid of the bearded Spock...

I've seen them all countless times; all 79 of 'em (if I remember right), and I will stick to my beliefs that this reboot was merely to cater to modern tween/twenty-something audiences raised on a steady diet of Alias, Lost and Smallville. Now, that may be what the producers were going for, but I didn't buy a young Kirk with a chisled six pack making out with Green Twat while Uhura busts in as her roomate...this just didn't feel like Trek to me.

The only feature of this movie I didn't care for was the ship of the enemy. I had looked like sharp razor edges found on top of the state prison wall. When I drive by that place you can see the sharp razor edges. Good that there though keeps them from escaping.. But the movie should have gone with other type of ship. One thing I do like they had brought back those short mini shirts for the Women officer crew!

i agree with you peter, but come on hollywood has always been like that.i mean a movie star like joan crawford, bette davis and others were hot women in there day.its just in there day they coundn't get away with the ''tight bod''or the skin they show today.i mean look back at the tos, women in tight short dresses, come on.

how about a young shatner,he was a hot male for that time, women loved him.hollywood is still hollywood, and it hasn't changed one bit.
for some reason when it comes to the new trek film you see it different and throw all the rules of hoolywood out the window.

as far as the new uhura,to me it works.if you look at the tos uhura many times had her eye on spock!with all those emotions in check,if those emotions were let loose spock would have been the best lay on the ship!

being tv as it was in the 60's you don't think they would have shown kirk banging some chick on a bed half naked or more if they could have?how about enterprize where t'pol drops her jammies and we see almost a full back view of her naked and on tv.i'm not buying what your saying.you just sound like you want trek as it was not is.

as my point was before 40 years ago it was hot babes and hot men that sold movies ,it still is.
