Hi,
I have a friend who is somewhat handy and tried to help me mount a 37 in LCD over the mantle of a vented gas fireplace. The actual mount went fine to a peerless articulating arm mount. However, my concern is behind the wall. Will the heat from the gas fireplace cause any risk to the wiring which are above the unit? It tavels well above the actual fireplace, through a hole in the insulation and drop down behind the the fireplace and fireplace insulation into the basement where the cable box is located. What worries me is the power line coming from the new outlet box we installed in the wall behind the TV also runs the same route as the component cable down where we plan to tap off another power line in the basement. Is this sound OK? also I had read that interference can occur if I run the A/V cable along side the power line for very far. Any advice is appreciated Tim |

fireplace instead. He ran the wires in the wall, no problems yet. The problem is that my dad thinks he was born with a building permit. |

It should be no problem. My house has built-in electrical and component jacks above a gas fireplace.

How about the A/V cable running along with the power line. any issues there as far as interference with audio or video? |

Not sure about that. I do get fizzles and such when I watch non-HD stuff, but thats probably because of the low grade cables my cable provider uses to connect my tv. I still get excellent sound and HD picture.

You'd need to be using cheap cables and having them run long distances before you'd notice any distortion caused by running the side-by-side, you should be good.

Based on your description of how you did it:
Now, if you actually went through the insulation, and if there is any chance that the wires may be in near proximity to the vent or firebox itself . . . . well, enough said. |

my plasma TV gets hotter than the heat from the fireplace by itself.
The only issue from a fireplace would be the smoke making your screen dirty. |

I've got one over a gas fireplace. No issues so far but the cables are inside pvc conduit.
