FOUR THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELL PHONE COULD DO
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: FIRST Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of t he coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out. SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk). Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!" THIRD Hidden Battery Power Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activ ate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time. And Finally.... FOURTH Free Directory Service for Cells Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE 411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now. This is the kind of information people don't mind recei ving, so pass it on to your family and friends. |

I would suggest using Snopes before posting stuff like this. It's not entirely false, but the suggestions above are not very accurate, as a whole. my two cents.

Snopes.com is a great resource - I had a email subscription to it in the past - but there is so much chain mail GIGO from guys like him - like this crap that it's overwhelming - and depressing - to read about it every week ) Lee's "tips" such as the "reserve battery" thing are just "ass backwards" from the actual facts - and like most of the rest of his posts - either wrong, obvious, or useless ------------------but pretty much par for that guy - --------- -------------------------- ---------------------------- compare this junk to real and useful free services - such as Google SMS http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/sms/ Last edited by maicaw; 03-15-2007 at 02:11 PM. |

Well I try to steer clear of the banter between you two but I do find it entertaining. Originally I was going to respond with "I'm a Kenyan national who has to get 2 million dollars out of the country, and if you could help me complete this transaction, by giving me your SSN and bank account number, i'll give you 200,000USD..." but, hey...just havin' some fun there, Lee. now where is that smiley where the one head is poking the either with a twig, when I need it?

Unfortunately this information was circulated via emails in Feb.
He probably just took it at face value and posted it as a service. I'm sure he didn't mean to post slightly wrong information (and it was just slightly off except for the low battery number) I think Lee could post anything and some of you will jump on him for doing it no matter what and visa versa. I was not until recently aware that he had troubles with WUV and maicaw but, now I know and expect there to be ongoing back and forth verbal sparing with no real benefit for the rest of us. I'm not trying to defend anyone from anyone else (both sides seem to be guilty to some extent) but, this constant bickering does get tiring. |

I don't envision what I did as bickering at Lee, if you were referring to me. I've accidentally posted my fair share of misinformation on boards over the course of my life and I expect to catch a little shit for it just the same.

I just get tired of "You're posts are all worthless and a waste of time because you posted the wrong numbers on your post last week"! kind of responses. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, just correct them for everyone to read but, don't make the correction into a personel attack on the poster, that might be fun to read for a little while but becomes tiresome when it goes on forever. That is just my opinion.

Urban legends. Mythbusters debunked several of these.

Yeah, I saw that episode also. The only accurate item in the OP was the fourth item, free directory assistance when dialing the above mentioned 800 number.
