Connecting External drive to 70" TV

Default Connecting External drive to 70" TV

I have a Sharp 70" LED TV (Model: LC70LE650U) and I would like to connect a Seagate Expansion Desk, Model Number: STBV3000100 (3TB) external drive directly to my TV.

I am able to connect it going through my Samsung Blueray (Model: BDF5900) and it works fine. However; I would like to connect it directly to the TV. On the menu display, it has recording so I am assuming that it is possible.

TV has USB, HDMI, Ethernet, RCA.
Drive has USB and external power

According to the Sharp website that should work. I don't know what file types or codecs are handled by the TV but assuming you use the most common, I would expect it can handle playback.
