You perhaps miss the point snakefoot, if you need a preamp you need a preamp. And if a mere preamp is not enough to bring you joy, then its time to look at the plan B of antenna upgrades. But if you have to then later look at plan B, the same preamp you bought as plan A is reusable as part of plan B also. And in the end it may take both, or with some situational luck, the preamp by itself may do the trick. No grantees either way.

It's possible that a pre-amp will help... but impossible to say definitively that it will help beforehand. If a good CM or Winegard pre-amp doesn't resolve reception issues, then it's time to team the pre-amp with a new antenna.

You guys are very helpful. So I will get a pre amp and it sounds like it will be best to have one antenna for both TVs.If the preamp does not help, will upgrade antenna. Since there will be one antenna, which pre amp is best, the Winegard HDP269 or the Channel Master 7777? Can't thank you enough and I will be sure and let you know how this all works out.

The 7777 would be the best bet for you. If it is back-ordered, and if you don't want to wait, the Winegard 8275 is also an excellent choice.

Well, I am confused yet again.I called the Winegard dealer near us and he had me check the signal strength, had no idea I could do this. This morning, the two VHF channels came in for about 30 minutes. The dealer told me an amp would only work if I had a signal,it could not boost no signal. So while on the phone with him I checked signal and there was no signal on VHF, as is true for 98% of the time. He still wanted me to buy a pre amp, even though before I checked he said it would not help no signal. Now maybe I am stupid, but can it boost the times when there is no signal or only the brief times the signal comes in? The other channels(UHF) all had strong signals. He also told me that there are special HD antennas, but everything I have read says this is not true and if a salesman tries to tell you this,to find another salesman. Now I know a pre amp is needed for two TVs,right now, I would just like to get one TV working and then go from there. So I am thinking I just plain need a better antenna with more VHF power, can use the Radio Shack antenna as a yard ornament!Sorry to keep bothering you with this.

You will definitely benefit from the pre-amp, especially if the desired stations(s) is right on edge of the "digital cliff". I would personally try the pre-amp first, and then replace or augment your present antenna if needed later on. I would generally say replace the antenna first, but you seem to be getting satisfactory results on UHF now.
