Default DTV station moving to VHF post transition?

tvfool says that currently in my area (03064) that WHDH-DT (NBC) virtual channel is 7.1 and real channel is UHF 42. But after the Feb 19 transition the real channel will be 7 which moves it from UHF to VHF. (WMUR-DT ABC is another one thats moving from UHF to VHF channel 9) I thought the all digital switchover was so that the FCC could reclaim the VHF channels (2-13) for other uses? Why are some channels moving from UHF to VHF? Also if I had a UHF-only antenna now, would I loose those channels post transition?

The FCC is eliminating channels 52-69, keeping 2-51 for TV broadcasting. The lower VHF channels (2-6) will only be used in limited areas, with most stations falling between 7 and 51.

You're probably in luck with your UHF antenna. Most do an adequate job at pulling in the higher VHF channels. TVfool shows that you will be getting fairly strong signals from those channels moving to 7 and 9. One thing you could check is to see how your analog reception is right now on 7 and 9 with the UHF antenna. If your picture is fairly clear, you shouldn't have a problem with the digital signal after the transition.
