All of my channels are from 55- 70 miles away. I was wondering if the 8275 would overload, because I can get it cheaper than the channel master. Anybody have a preference of the 2?

titan here....I got mine for around $50...not too bad for a good amp...its noise figure is 2.0db for uhf compared to the 8275's 2.8db so it is better for uhf....also the titan 7777 has separate inputs if you are using two antennas (one vhf and one uhf) this is a distinct advantage. The gain is a little higher on the 8275, but at long range the noise figure is more important to getting good signal....really there is not that much difference, but the titan in my opinion is the better of the two

Don't make the mistake of assuming you need a high-amplification pre-amp like the 8275 simply because you are trying to pick up stations from 70 miles away. The 29dB /28 db gains for VHF/UHF offered by this pre-amp are enormous amounts of amplification which could cause overload of strong signals and do nothing with weak signals, depending on how good an antenna you have. (A high amplification pre-amp cannot really compensate for a weak antenna that cannot provide it a usable signal). You need to consult TVFool.com to see what sort of signal strength you will be receiving at your location. Even the Titan 7777 with 23dB VHF and 26 dB UHF might provide too much amplification, as people living in my area have found out.
I get all my UHF digital stations from either Mount Mansfield VT (79.6 miles away) or Lyon Mountain NY (51.3 miles away) and the angle between the bearings to those mountains is 42 degrees. My UHF antenna is pointed about 1/3 of the way between the two Mountains and it provides less gain than a CM4228 but a little more (a dB or 2 depending on the channel) than a CM4221. My pre-amp provides only 16 dB of gain and all of the stations come in with high signal strengths and SNRs of about 30 dB. I also receive excellent UHF analogue signals from those locations. The 28 dB gain for UHF provided by the 8275 is 16 times (12 dB more) that provided by my pre-amp. Around my neighbourhood a Titan 7778 or a CM Spartan are about the highest gain pre-amps used. (The two provide identical gain). |
