usually late at night and early morning are my best times to dx....sometimes dx comes in so strong it knocks out some of the closer channels even...dx rarely happens during the day for me... maybe you location has a different effect with krcb, but it could be other factors that cause that effect too

Default KRCB question solved

Howdy DX people,

I think KRCB 22 vir. turns the transmitter off at midnight, or 30 seconds prior. I was watching it at 11:59 pm and I was showing full signal stength and 100% PQ. Then they showed a few PBS adverts, and suddenly there was just a static background. If you then tune away then tune back, you then see a black screen and the "no signal" indication.

Anyone live in the N. SF bay area who can confirm?

Last night was a awesome night in Pennsylvania for DX'n.

I was receiving stations from the Cleveland OH area with no issues.

One was actually coming in over the local PBS station - WPSU which is only 30 miles away from my house and transmitting 835 Kw to the east of my location.

WDLI, WKYC and WUAB, Cleveland Ohio, are all 143 or more miles away to the North West!

Default WNEM-DT, Bay City, MI

My Dish Network DTVPal DVR added WNEM-DT (rf 22, virtual 5.x) of Bay City, MI overnight. Bay City is about 245 miles from my location in Salem, OH. I'm not sure how often the DTVPal DVR automatically scans for stations, but it's a cool feature.

I didn't notice any reference to the overnight scan in the manual. It added another station on its own last night. Click HERE for a PDF file of the manual.

My DTVPal DVR added a some additional tropo stations overnight: WANE-TV (rf 31, virtual 15.x) and WPTA (rf 24, virtual 21.x) of Ft.Wayne, IN; WBGU-TV (rf 27, virtual 27.x) of Bowling Green, OH, and WKBD-TV (rf 14, virtual 50.x) of Detroit, MI. I'm about 220 miles from Ft. Wayne, 150 miles from Bowling Green and about 160 miles from Detroit.

Nice! What mode is it in when it does this automatic scan?

Great tropo, here in southcentral Ontario. Yesterday, Burlington, VT, 300+ miles away. Today, Philadelphia, PA, over 400 miles. Also New York City, at 350 Miles plus. I'm using a Winegard PR8800 UHF & YA1713, on a 35 foot tower, with CM7777 preamp.

It comes from the factory set to reboot nightly at 1:00 a.m. I changed that to 6:00 a.m. I'm guessing that it performs a nondestructive channel scan after it reboots. When I turn it on for the first time each day, it lists the new channels it added overnight. When there is a virtual channel that already exists, the new channel is assigned to a virtual channel number in the 70s. I'm using the most recent firmware, version 2.08.

Thanks. So,do you think it just does one short scan,or maybe is in continual repetitive scan mode until you turn it back on.This box might be good for unattended DX.I used to have a Humax box that done a continuing scan when shut off,but it had a severe problem of locking up and was useless.

I think that it only does one scan after it reboots. It would be great if there were an ATSC box that performed continuous nondestructive scans.

Default Rain and humidity and reception?

Howdy DX peoplle,

The last two or three weeks, the reception in N CA hasn't been as good. Today we have a tropical rainstorm and the humidity outside is about 80-90%. Now the reception is really good. I thought it would be the opposite. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I don't know for sure....JBantennaman would be good for this answer, but I've noticed that generally rainy or foggy days are better for dx reception.....I always thought that it had to do with the moisture helping the signal along.
