Can I use satellite dish as an outdoor HD antenna?

I heard it works, but can't find any info online. I don't want to buy an expensive indoor antenna. My house has a Directv dish on the roof from the previous owner. All the cables and ports are still there. How can I use it as an outdoor VHF/UHF HD antenna? Hope someone knows. Thank you.

No the frequencies and electronics are completely different. You can reuse the coax cables and hook up an antenna on the mount though.

Thanks for the reply. I used a 80" Boom Length, 32-Element Antenna in the attic, however, not all channels can be received from one direction. When I get ABC, I lost NBC. So what would you suggest for an indoor antenna or anything(not expensive and easy to install)? I live in north Dallas area. Thanks.

I'd suggest moving your antenna outside..

If you have the DirecTV receiver you might be able to pull in your locals.. I read that over at SatelliteGuys, I believe.. But, not all DirecTV receivers will pass the signal.. Also, don't quote me on this because I could be all wrong.. Hahaha

The KXAS-DT and WFAA-DT towers are within a couple of miles of each other, so direction is not the problem. KXAS-DT is on channel 41 and WFAA-DT is on channel 9. You may be getting some reflections off mechanical equipment in your attic, that changes when you re-orient your antenna.

First suggestion is to move the antenna outside to let all your neighbors know you have an HDTV.

Also read through the DFW thread on www(dot)AVSForum(dot)com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=45 and see what others in the area have done. I have heard of some problems with WFAA-DT.

In 2009 WFAA-DT will hop back to channel 8 and KFWD-DT will move from 52 to 9.
