Hello,
I live in a two story home in Chesterfield MI 48051 (info below) and just bought a new vizio plasma with built-in HD tuner. Right now I just have Comcast Cable (not digital) and would like to put a Antenna up in the attic so I can get OTAHD with a cable run of about 40 feet. I know the attic is not ideal, but I would like to give it a try. Any suggestions on a antenna, I've been reading that with a attic install you sound double the gain. I don't have much of a idea what I need and would really appreciate the help. I've search this forum up and down and can't find a post that is similar to the my distance to station and attic problem. What do I need? Do I just try the CM 4228? I would think that the CM4221 would do for you. It has a slightly wider beam width so it could get all your channels without a rotator and it is UHF only.
The only problem might be WJBT-DT 58 which will have to change channels by the 02/17/2009 digital switchover date, because all channels above 52 are going away. WJBK-DT will be on channel 7. you might consider adding a sub-urban VHF or even a channel 7 yagi to your setup when the change occurs.

I am in Canada accross from Detroit in Windsor at a distance of about 25 - 30 miles.
My first solution was an RCA2020x (Omni-amplified20db) type antenna which worked for a while, but now is prone to many pixelations and drop outs on WDIV (NBC) and gets signals in the 50/60's, so I changed to a yagi style Radioshack U-75R for all detroit locals. I have about 200' of cable run and use a winegard hdp269 before my splitter to get all digitals with no drop outs, NBC is at 67 - 69, not the best, but it works. This is in my attic and works for me for now, but jim5506 is correct, FOX is moving to channel 7 for digital making it a VHF band then another solution may be necessary. From my experience with this antenna channels 4 and 7 are not too bad in analog so maybe the digital will work on 7 too... only time will tell. |
