Thanks for the information.
The antenna are about $US45 each trade. Given I have one antenna. A 2 yagi horizontal array is about $US95 extra including a low loss joiner so will try that first. The quad yagi array is about $US180. By a diamond array assume you mean a 3 high vertical stack of one on the top row, two in the middle row and one on the bottom row, so 1-2-1. Have tried Google and have not found an information on this type of array, do you have a link or further information? What are the advantages over say a 4 horizontal, or a 2x2? Assume the spacing in both horizontal and vertical is the wavelength of the lowest frequency. The reason I thought the 4228 would be useful is that as stated many times the UHF signal diffuses after 30 miles. Would the array assist in capturing this? Am guessing so. Another alternative is the Fracarro PU16H (see attached) but that would cost about $US260 to ship from Australia so think will try an array first. Thanks for the answer. I have read widely on this and still could not decide. Godfrey |

How do I get HD?

As confirmation of tigerbangs recommendations, my daughter recently purchased a house in Florence, AL which is outside the Huntsville service area at 70.6 miles. With a 4228 hanging on a nail in the attic (pointed due East) and a Spartan 0064 amp she receives the following analog Huntsville stations; 19 and 31 VG, 54 fair to good (some visible snow) and 48 fair (visible snow). They are all watchable on her 13” kitchen TV which is also slaved off the RF output of her D*TV receiver. As you drive around the rural AL countryside you see a lot of 4228’s and not much else. No info on Huntsville DT stations yet.
I live Cobb county (Atlanta, GA) with a RS UV-90 in the attic with a cheap amp to blast thru the D*TV receiver, VCR and 30 feet of RG59 to my kitchen TV. Analog reception was VG to excellent (a few ghosts on 5 and intermittent interference on 11). Recently replaced it with Toshiba 26HL66 LCD set. After reorienting the antenna to point directly at 2 (DT39), which degraded analog reception on a few channels, 2 (DT39) is 85%, 11 (DT10) is 94% and everything else is upper 90’s to 100%. The 26HL66 is a great set, BTW. |

I have been learning a great deal from reading this thread. I appreciate those with experience that are willing to share.
I recently purchased a 32" Proview HDTV with the standard and high definition tuners. I already have an older deep fringe Radio Shack rotored antenna mounted 30' above my roof on a telescoping pole. I has a preamp and amp with about 110 feet of older 75 ohm coax cable. It is not only connected to the new HDTV, but to about 4 other regular TVs in the house. My area code is 95969. I presently receive about 15-20 standard TV stations, depending on the weather from the local area and Sacramento and even sometimes San Francisco. We are at an elevation of about 1700 feet above the Sacramento Valley. When I attached my new Proview HDTV to the system and worked with my old rotor, at times I was able to detect up to 20 digital channels from 480 dpi to 1080 dpi. My problem comes in locking in the stations. At times I can lock a few of the stations without pixelating --- and the image and sound is just amazing! Unfortunately, this is rare. The weather seems to make a big difference. From what I have read on this thread, I have come to the conclusion that I need to upgrade my antenna system to the "HD Prescription". I have a few questions. (1) When mounting the CM 4228 and the Wade-Delhi VIP-306 above the rotor at 30 feet, how are they placed? I assume that I would put the VIP on top with the CM underneath above the rotor? I also assume that since they would weigh about 30 lbs, I would need to add a rotor support bearing (TB-105). Is that reasonable? (2) I have located all the items needed except for the VIP-306. The distributer listed for California does not seem to know that he is on the Delhi list? Where is a another place where I might get this item at a reasonable price? (3) I see on this thread some members have some sort of signal strength meter. That might be handy in the setup. What would I look for and where might I find this item? Thanks for any help you can give me. I hope to pass it on once I learn enough to help others. JWatts |

Any thoughts on trying to get DFW digital stations from 75076 - approx 90 miles north of DFW transmitters in Cedar Hill, TX?
Currently get KXII and KTEN, but hoping to pull in ABC and FOX affils from DFW. |

There are few people who will offer you any hope of getting reliable TV reception beyond the horizon (approx 65-70 miles, depending on the terain). If you want to try it, I suggest that you consider a tall tower of at least 45-50 feet and look at the sticky for my deep-fringe perscription. The greater your antenna receiving height, the better your chances are for success.

Darn you must be in a hole! Antennaweb does not show anything for you. I would think with the prescription you should be able to get New Orleans (40 mi?) or Baton Rouge (60 mi?) maybe. Just have to try it.

i have been trying to get fox with ota antenna with no success. i can get cbs out of savannah ga. they do broadcast some programs in hd. i can not get any signal from fox. i do beleive that their is a fox affiliate in charleston sc that broacast in hd. does anyone have any suggestions on how i can get fox. i currently have a old antenna with elements missing (appears to look like a vu 190) with a direct tv hr20 hd dvr with a 60" LG plasma flat panel hdtv, i did try a new rs vu90 antenna (which iam stuck with rs say's no returns on antennas) and could not recieve any channels at all. i do have my old antenna mounted about 6 foot above the roof. i also have a 25 foot tower and a rotator going up this weekend. i am wondering if i should buy a different antenna for the tower and possibly a amp. my zip code is 29907..i believe the tramitters in charleston sc and savannah ga are about 70 miles away. any help would be greatly appreciated.

zip is 97355. Fairly flat terrain to the north except for some hills and trees. Directly to my south, I mean about 300', is a 400' hill. Currently have a RS vu-190xr that was damaged, bent in a windstorm. No amp, am about 20' off ground, no rotator. Can get most Portland stations, have never tried the Eugene ones because of the hill. Wanting to upgrade, what are my best choices for the money-would I be able to get the Eugene stations? Thanks
