UHF on top and 4-5ft to the Y7-13 and join them then to the amp and you are golden... here is my setup: http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture006.jpg

gjvrieze, I see the AD-91XG on the bottom, what is all that on top? More than a YA1713. They are not pointed in the same direction, right? Another ? is my past experience with amps is replacing them every year or more often. How in the world can you work on something that high without being a pain in the butt?

I have 2 "farms" 1 91XG at the base of the mast, and a 91XG joined with a Y7-13 at the upper end of the mast.... This is all a pretty new setup, one I spent some time figuring out what I wanted to do...
Actually I was pretty scared first time to the top, but once I got used to it, it is actually a lot "safer" then roof work and can be done in snow and ice, were I would not dare get on the roof.... I have had good luck with amps, rotators give me issues, so I avoid them on my new setups at all costs, plus rotoring antennas and dvrs does not work good together...

The TC stations should be fairly doable with an 91XG/Y7-13, and the Rochester/Austin/Mason City stations could be gotten with the same setup.... I would go with a CM 7777 amp and join the 2 antennas with that....

VIP-307SR: I do not know why you would need VHF-LO and the wind load is extreme, the DB8 would be ok, but less rejection of side/back signals which may make the 50-60 more reliable.... You could try it and see what happens, otherwise, the 91XG is a lot smaller and less wind load...
Small world
Do you think I would need to run a distribution amplifier because of the long runs after the splitter or will the CM7777 do?
Who makes the Y7-13

EDIT: here is a long "J" for a good price: http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_disp...p?PROD=DS-3000
Thanks gjvrieze. I'll let you guys know how I make out. Probably will not get to it for a little while, my DirecTV HD is getting installed today. Thanks again, and have a Happy New Year.

How long will your longest run be? How many times will it split? I would avoid the extra amp if it can be helped, more noise and cost.
2 Companies make "Y7-13" antennas I would go with the more expensive Winegard, a little better quality and gain:

Cool, winter is here and very annoying, I put an amp on a roof antenna before our latest snow fall, glad I got that done! (it was not much fun it 15mph winds at 20F out there!)

After further review of my situation I need to run 125' of rg6 outside the house. I could possibly run it under the house, crawl space and would be a pain, of about 100'. My ? is with using the ap8700 is it worth the hassle to save the db gain in 25'?

Have you run your TVFool profile at 40, 50 and 60 ft to explore what the possibilities might be for helping reception by going higher.

Just looking at your local by zip code, the results are much better than your detailed by address results, so I thought some more height might help as much or more than new antennas/pre-amps.

Jim I guess that's directed at me. I do plan on going up another 10' which will put me about 40' from the ground. My main problem is the hills,200'-300' above the house, all around me. My front yard is 300' long before the hill comes into play. My main concern now is the 125' cable I need to to run. Again I would like to know if 25' less under the house will make that much difference. Running the cable outside will be a whole lot easier.

Cable loss varies with frequency http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ANTENNAS/basics.html

You will lose a little over 1 db more by running the rg6 outside versus in the crawl space. Final answer depends on total distribution losses. In general, we're talking a small difference and it is probably okay to run the cable outside.

Lugerunner,

Another 25' shouldn't make a difference, especially if you are using a pre-amp. I had a 100' piece of RG-6 running from my unamplified UHF antenna, and was recieving stations down to -100dbm(gray zone). I trimmed off 25' that wasn't needed, and didn't notice any difference.

After some closer mesurements the cable runs from the antenna about 45 feet to the basement to a 4 way splitter and then has three longer runs. One is about 40 feet long, one is 35 feet long, one is 25 feet long, and the last one is about 15 feet long. I am only using the one 4 way digital splitter rated at 5-2300 MHz. All runs use Magnavox RG6/U 18 AWG cable.
